Alternator belt came off wooops

So alternator belt came off almost full boost in second. From what i can see, where the belt is on the crank pulley it wobbles and i think that was my problem. Anyways iv snapped my temp sensor at the bottom of the rad, lost all water due to it clipping the drain plug, snapped the tensioner pulley mount (the spring loaded one), lost the tensioner, snapped bolts further down (see pic). Does this look repairable with the snapped metal etcc.. Im guessing it wont be cheap. Any help appreciated image.jpg

Ah got ya! Its not been there for years, down to a huuge rad i think.. I hope it is to do with the ac then i can put my mind at rest a bit! Can someone shed light on this???

 

Looking at £200 for a tensioner off import car parts. Then god knows what a crank pulley etcc will cost. Does the whole unit have to be replaced or just the part the belt goes on? As thats the bit which has play

Not being funny here. Did your car have AC, or was it removed?

 

Its been removed lol, if thatbhad gone missing and i never noticed then id class myself as brainless

That's not so bad then. I thought tensioners were cheaper than that. You could get a second hand one off of Keron? It's not the sort of thing I would worry about 2nd hand. As for the crank pulley, I believe they are around the £200-£250 mark. They come as a dampened assembly and it's a bit of a pig to get them off. You're not in for a good time of it unfortunately. Do you do the work on the car yourself?

There are cheaper ones but not for 6 speed i believe, i really need to get my head around it then start properly looking at parts for it. I also saw you can get lightned pulleys but they look nothing like the one thats on as they only come with the part the belt goes on and not the plate that sits behind it. Noticed too when the belt came off it has a slight miss im guessing this is due to the crank pulley being balanced but with it not under tension then it caused timing to be slightly off? Iv heard they are a pita to get off yes. If i think the job is doable then yea i do it myself. If im really not confident then il get someone to do it but dont know anyone that is good with aupras around my area

Just pay the money, get a brand new genuine Toyota pulley, its not that expensive and will last many years. And DONT get a lightened pulley.

 

Getting the crank pulley bolt off just needs the correct tools, piece of piss with those.

I wouldnt go with they cheap parts i was just saying i didn't understand how they were so different. Whats the tools needed? Also does it need lined up before tightned? Noticed the pully had a white line then the timing belt cover has numbers

They're so different because the stock item is a harmonic damper, while the solid pulley is just that, a pulley. It wont need lined up as theres a key on the crank to locate it.

You need a tool to lock the crank whilst you crack the bolt off. The white mark is the timing marks for the engine

the stud that is bent at the bottom is part of the oil pump, so if you want to sort this, then you need to change the oil pump too so engine out or drop the subframe!

 

but be careful not to disturb that stud too much as if it cracks through, you will have no oil in seconds of the car running which will finish your engine!

Yeah, I got the re-sized one off of Lee. There's 2 sizes IIRC, one with the AC and one for the AC delete.

The way the air con compressor has been just taken off leaves your PAS pump not properly supported. As such the belt may come off, even if the crank damper is OK or new, and the stud that is now the only thing supporting the bottom of the PAS pump may well crack the boss in the engine block it screws into, and scrap the engine block. You CANNOT just take the A/C pump off without further work. I have two scrap block here because of this.

you need to remove the cam cover & front engine covers to get access to the 3 bolts that secure it in place.

 

But TBH if you are relying on information from this forum to remove things like the tensioner then I would be leaving this job to a garage if I was you.
