Chris Bailey
Now that ive passed my theory which I believe is the hardest part, I'm now going to start my lessons again and book my test. With a bit of luck I hope to be on the road in the very near future. Thankfully my nan has been kind enough to offer me up to £3k for my first car, Ideally I'd like something Japanese. But am also open to other options. So would like to know what's out there for my budget. I like the Honda Civic EP2 1.6 Sport, basically a Type-R replica but without the running costs and its well within my budget also fairly cheap to run and maintain. Below is an EP2 I have found that is perfect, only problem is its a CAT D. http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/05/10/9060b6b1ab887d4f53c019fdaf69be25.jpg Anyone got any other options feel free to comment
Rich.2211
To be honest I like your current idea with the EP2, just check insurance costs as I gather they can be expensive.

kirky_123
I used to have an older shape civic vti coupe running around 170bhp was an awesome car, cheap to maintain and Rev it's nuts off all day long no problem, mine had hit 150k and still ran sweet

I had a look and was honest with mods etc, best quote was £2200 with a black box fitted. Tesco bank wanted £2300. But all my quotes have been without my parents on as named drivers. Hopefully with them on the policy it shoild go down another £200 maybe.

tkddav3
All down to insurance man, can you justify 2k to insure a 3k car?, as it's your first car they'll try and rape your wallet. Civic would be pretty cool if you can insure, if not...suzuki swift 1.3 attitude version, then there's sustain crap like corsas but every muppet has one
j_jza80
VW Lupo 1.4 TDi. 75hp as standard, 90+hp with a remap. 80mpg possible. Fun car, cheap to run, hold their value well, and cheap to insure.
Havard
Comparison sites are your friend Chris. If you go for anything slightly modified (even wheels) the insurance goes mental. Been looking for a car for my daughter for a month or so. We are shopping at less than a grand and there are some pigs out there. For £3K, you could get something decent. I wouldn't worry about CAT D cars as your first, it will be a CAT C in no time. H.

Zeiretto
They're pretty rare, but what about a Toyota Celica SS-III? FWD, 2.0 Beams engine with 210 BHP. Really nice cars. http://i4.bebo.com/052/17/large/2009/12/15/22/167912739a11977739633l.jpg

Pay me now, collect on the way back from DB. Winner!! Have you looked into an NA Supe yet mate? For the money you're gonna pay to insure a Honda that makes you look even gayer than your jeans, you might be surprised dude. My NA Supe was £130 a year more expensive than my Primera! Scott
I would buy your first car based purely on insurance. Just go through loads of quotes for different cars then buy the cheapest. Insurance on a 1.6 with your first car is going to be silly money. Keep an eye out for any garages offering free insurance when you take the finance (or cheap insurance) it often works out better than the finance costs you. That way you set up an account to get the money taken from, stick the 3K in and work it from there.

Zeiretto
Oh, I don't know much about UK insurance. My bad! I had it registered on my dad's name, cost me £30 a month for insurance here in The Netherlands.

Hitbox Junkie
My first car was a mk4 escort 1.6 4door. with a exhaust on as mods. I also.had the front end of rs turbo on it and lowered 30mm all I needed for it were wheels. worst mistake I made was saleing it insurance was around 2k. the car vost 350 Its your first car as long as you dont drive it like you stole it and dont get prangs then go for what you want as long as you can afford it and insurance. Try a mazda mx5 they can be so much fun

Swampy442
Don't get wrapped up in a nice car for your first car, just get something functional, because you want to gain experience and you will undoubtably have a shunt of some magnitude. So the usual contenders Corsa, Fiesta, Lupo, Arosa etc. I had a Seat Ibiza TDi as a daily recently and replaced it with a Skoda Fabia, great little cars, well equipped, safe, reliable, cheap. Unless of course you have tons of cash to pay on insurance/repairs
crock
Depends how much you are willing to spend, I wanted fun for my first car, I bought a suzuki jimny with the whole intention modifying it into a off road toy, my first years insurance cost me £2700 for a £1200 car, still got it now, costs me around £500 to insure on a specialist off road policy, had my fun in the mud and rocks rather than thinking I was king of the road trying like a total bell end, most of my friends wrote off a car in their 1st year because of that 2/3 years later I'm onto a tt6 supra which doesn't cost me the earth to insure, now I can be a bell end

So for an extra £200 or so I can insure the 1.6 sport civic. Which is only another insurance group higher than the other cars.
