T14PPA
Im looking at buying another turbo and was wondering how to store the other one to not cause any damage or force me to rebuild it if i use it in the future?
chrispot
what i would do is pour a drop of gear oil into feed/drain then if poss fit plugs to cap off, then put in a cardboard box with some silica gel packs. but try to store it in a place where the temperature does not change that much. because what can happen is, say it's stored in a shed and it's been a very cold night the turbo temperature would also be low, then the sun comes up and warms the shed and the temperature can change very quickly. as you know warm air can hold more moisture than cold and this warm air can hit the turbo which is still cold and condense and moisture can form on it and may start rusting it. toolstation sell a can of protective wax spray. but i would not spray the inside of the compressor or turbine, as you don't won't any dirt etc sticking to wax. wait until the misses has gone out, then store in under the bed if possibly ( assuming your not incontinent, as that could rust it quite quick) other tips would be, don't use it as a door stop or a paperweight? both would look cool regards chris. Chris Wilson
Engine oil in the ports of the centre section, then stick it in a zip top plastic bag and put it somewhere dry. I wouldn't bother taking other precautions, they are pretty tough!
