tooquicktostop
I am guessing the haters never grew up in the MKI golf era, they were a pin up desired hot hatch with great looks and performance at the time, I sold my MKI a couple of years ago, huge fail IMO
jcbt
I would have this for a daily no problem;)

Chris6t9
I would take my supra over that any day of the week. They always look better in the pictures anyway, then they come out looking a bit bland...
Chris Wilson
I have an acquaintance with similar power in a 4WD Audi TT with a modded DSG gearbox,on a Motec. It's crazy fast, handles sublimely, is light and is slippery in shape, and does over 32 MPG. Awesome little beast. Baby GTR and it's proving very reliable. The six-speed DSG 'boxes are suffering with reliability issues at present. I know several people who have had to send their car back to VW or Seat because the box failed, but I've never driven a modded one. What has your friend done to it? Beefed up any components? Chris Wilson
re mapped ecu and Kevlar reinforced clutch plates. Changes very VERY fast. I am not a DSG fan myself though, I would personally have gone for a conventional manual, if indeed that option is available on his model. Keeping things simple is my ethos

I think the only car I'd actually choose an auto on would be a modern 911, because that seven-speed manual they're using is woeful and the PDK really is a step above all other twin-clutch 'boxes. The Ferrari ones are great too, but with them you don't get the option of a third pedal at all.
tony tt
Hardly iconic?! You're joking, right? The Golf is up there with the biggest icons in motoring history. It's as big a thing as Beetle, 911, E-Type, Mini etc. I wonder which will be remembered in 25 years - Golf or Supra? Never been VW minded so I don't rate the Golf at all in any form. Each to their own.
marc_p
I think the best is the latest RS6, theres a guy on Pistonheads that spent less than a grand and bumped the power to 700+whp, insane

marc_p
Mmmm I do like them. Just unfortunate that even though the cost to bump the power is cheap, they are about £80k to buy
MattP
A new peasant spec RS6 is 80k on the road... Gaz6002
That engine is pure brilliance. Love it. That's probably where my cash would go for a car like that. I think I may end up with an M6 Gran Coupe instead though.

Bloke sits next to me at work has a projected 600bhp audi TT. He's had alot of issues getting it ready for the drag series he was supposed to enter last year. From the test drives on the 400bhp map it is meant to be mentally fast.
gordy.r
I've got a friend who's a current stage 1 A45 AMG owner (it's pretty rapid!!!) And has had M5's, RS6's C63 AMG etc in the past. He test drove the new RS6 a month or two ago on a 24 hour test drive from his local Audi garage and said it was a phenomenal bit of machinery. 0-60 was similar to any other car of same horsepower / power to weight, but he said it was above 60mph that he reckons it would out pull and out run an Aventador! Again... It's the £80k price tag that means I probably won't be buying one any time soon lol

They're neck and neck until about 120 where the Lambo pulls away - could be thinking of different models though. Definitely the turbo Audi engine in the Audi and the non turbo Audi engine in the Lambo. Oh what a world we live in now...
Bobbeh
I wonder which will be remembered in 25 years - Golf or Supra? Both I suspect. One for being a mass market seller (with dodgy electrics), the other for being a performance tuning icon and film star
