Westcoaster
I don't have a walkie talkie, any reasonably priced recommendations?
SPG
I don't have a walkie talkie, any reasonably priced recommendations? I bought my Binatone handsets from Costco for £30 with the vat added on, which is pretty readonable. I can get anyone a set if you don't have a Costco near you or a Membership. Marcus GTE
I've got 2 supermarket things but I don't know if they are any good or compatible.
Westcoaster
Compatibility is the main problem I can't totally solve, Amazon have some good radios, but compatibility with other makes and the frequencies used is confusing me!
gordy.r
Should be ok no matter what brand, as long as you have the same frequencies and sub channels etc
Guest jn.shaw
I know most of you have one but thought I would show this anyway, if wer not sure about compatibility this should sort it. Just wondering what yous think. Be about 11 quid each if we wer willing to take one each. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10PCS-Walkie-Talkie-UHF-400-470MHZ-5W-16CH-Two-Way-PMR446-Radio-Retevis-H777-/261125686084?hash=item3ccc4dc344
Westcoaster
I've bought one of those radios from Amazon, under the brand name Baofeng. They get a good write up, but have to be re-programmed to UK frequencies, which seems to be straightforward enough. Whisper it, but apparently they're slightly too powerful to be used in the UK without a licence, so with that and the larger antenna that I purchased for it, I should still be in contact with everyone else, even if I get left behind! Remember you need the USB programming lead, info on programming here: http://www.essexham.co.uk/news/baofeng-bf-888s-review.html Programming software here: http://www.409shop.com/shop_displaynews.php?id=292 PMR frequencies to be programmed in here: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/archive/ra/publication/ra_info/ra357.htm Useful info here: http://ukradioscanning.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=533&start=10#p11385 All things considered it would be easier to buy a PMR446 ready to use walkie talkie, but I like a challenge and these seem to be almost pro quality at a toy price.
