Big Supes
Random question, I know, but ever since going BPU, I've been baffled by the difference in my exhaust sound compared to other Supra's. At first I put it down to the different cams and turbo's in the UK, but now I need to know for sure. It sounds like the exhaust is under water when chugging along. More curious than anything else. I was recently following a new Porsche Cayenne and it also made the same sound which got me thinking it could be the EGR?
MATT RR
I always thought my last UK spec Supra sounded like a boat, I actually quite liked it, I had a HKS super dragger and put it down to that but I'm not sure really what causes it or if its a problem! cered
Mine is pretty boat like and 'dull' sounding at idle, especially when cold. My neighbour comments that it sounds like his WRX STI and it does to be fair. I think it's just the decat and wide circumference exhaust giving it the 'deep' noise
Swampy442
It will be the cams I reckon.
Burna
I know what you mean. Pete on here is BPU with the same RSR exhaust as me, and he noted that the two cars sound different when driven. I always put it down to the lack of restrictor ring on the UK BPU's, does make them louder. But saying that, since removing the EGR yesterday, it does now sound slightly different! Big Supes
Lack of restrictor ring could definitely be linked to the extra noise. I think I'm with Swampy with the cams at the moment, although hearing the Porsche Cayenne (making the same under water sound) makes me think it's something else (possibly EGR). I need to get my EGR off and have another listen. Incidentally, I only found out the other day when reading into the EGR, that it's the reason the UK's have the bonnet scoop to cool number 6 cylinder where the hot gases are recirculated. You learn something new everyday. I do like the sound. It's like my old rescue boat I used to cox back from the dead.
