Ric
Toyota 5.1 is recommended and is cheap enough, makes sense to use that.
Dnk
How old is your brake fluid ? Brake fluid attracts moisture over the years hence it boils when it gets hot and you lose brake performance. DOT 5 is Silicon based and won't mix with DOT 3,4 or 5.1 and might cause problems to seals etc in a Glycol designed system. Use DOT 5.1, it's Glycol based which is what your system was designed to use. Completely replace your old fluid by bleeding the whole system, i use a vacuum bleeder which works a treat. If you want to spend more money then have a look at Motuls RBF 600 or 660 MOTUL RBF 600 and 660 (DOT4) has better dry and wet boiling points than normal DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 https://www.motul.com/system/product_descriptions/technical_data_sheets/168/original/RBF_600_Factory_Line_%28GB%29.pdf?1340122148 https://www.motul.com/system/product_descriptions/technical_data_sheets/169/original/RBF_660_Factory_Line_%28GB%29.pdf?1340124817 Edited May 5, 2015 by Dnk (see edit history)
bignum
Castrol srf race fluid is the best but its 30 quid a litre so unless you track your car alot that may be overkill, Ive been using brembo 600 and it seems ok, as dunk said motul 600/660 is also excellent. Chris Wilson
If you really did boil your fluid you would have found the pedal just went right to the floor and you would have ZERO brake retardation. Sounds much more like pad fade to me.
