My TT Auto UK spec seems to of developed a problem and I wondered if you peeps had any ideas as to what it is... Oh and yes my engine bay is a horrid sight :(

When you fire it up from cold and the revs sit around 1k which as far as I know is normal...it's after a minute or so the problem starts. Basically the revs drop down to around 500rpm and every 4-5 seconds there's a shudder like it's running on 5 cylinders for a second and it will continue to do this every 4-5 seconds. If you hold the revs around 2-3K it still does it but obviously quicker. Actually sounds like the exhaust is popping like it's got a lame version of anti lag :taped:

The above is what it's like when not in gear, when it's in gear it's fine on boost or at the very least it's not noticeable. When you're at slow speeds (pulling away from junctions or in slow traffic) it's quite bad, the car hunts for revs and acts almost like a slipping clutch.

I made a video but it doesn't seem to be that noticeable as the mic on the phone isn't the best.

The steps I've done thus far...

* Checked the timing marks.

* Cleaned the connections to spark plugs and checked their condition.

* Cleaned out the idle control valve.

The problem still persists, the oil on the rear 3 cylinders has been like that for the last 3 years and hasn't got any worse.

One cam does look ever so slightly out.

Coilpacks look to be in good condition bar some oil on the rubbers, I cleaned them up and pulled out the plugs to check them all over before refitting it all.

The spark plug holes look rather nasty due to the leaking cam cover seals...
