Chris Wilson Posted April 24, 2015 Share Posted April 24, 2015 The auto engine has no gearbox input shaft spigot bearing fitted. If using one with a manual transmission it is VITAL to fit one. All cranks are the same, and it's just a matter of tapping one in. Conversely, if using a manual engine with an auto box it is VITAL the spigot bearing is removed from the tail of the crankshaft. People have used various means, from expensive internal bearing pullers to a mashed up loaf of bread kneaded in behind the bearing, then whacking the bread with a well fitting drift through the middle of the bearing to hydraulic it out Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

In the system of a car with an automatic transmission, there are more moving parts so more energy is lost before the wheels turn. Or something like that, on the 300ZX forum I was on there was some discussion over the automatic variants losing power because of the way the transmission delivers the power to the wheels. The auto merely saps a bit more because of it's design. Think of it as Usain Bolt wearing his favourite comfy slippers and running the 100 metres. That's an auto. LOGIE Posted April 25, 2015 Share Posted April 25, 2015 Alternator has differences also! manual will have a 90amp alternator where as an auto will have 100amps.
