jza800
I have a small problem with heat in the cabin, it takes really long time before i get heat into the cabin when the car is at operating temperature I get a little heat into the cabin, but not at all normal temperature as i should, but if i raise the rpm I can feel it getting hotter but as soon as I leave it idle again, the most off the heat disappears... I have bleeded the system, flush the system and heater core for dirt ,checked the radiator and everything sits on and no leaking, do i have a worn heater core or???? Scooter
Check the two hoses that go in and out the bulkhead to the heater core. Check carefully for heat difference that might indicate a lack of flow and partial blockage in the heater matrix.
jza800
there are 2 new hoses, and it seems that both are close to same temp do you now what that are in and out on the heatercore? and i have flush the heatercore so there should not be any blockage in there
Chris Wilson
There's a linkage on the LH side of the heater box, up in the transmission tunnel area inside the car. It's plastic and can come off, it controls the heat flap, symptoms are as you describe. BTW, I know you are not English, but BOATS and SHIPS have cabins, cars have interiors, you'll have people telling you to close the porthole with talk like that There have been threads showing the exact location of this linkage in the recent past (last 12 months or so). Dnk
Here are some pics showing the part Chris is on about Also an engine bay shot showing the in and out pipes location on the matrix, this is on a UK car but can't see it being different on imports but wait to be proved wrong Edited April 23, 2015 by Dnk (see edit history)

Chris Wilson
Perfect Dunk, just like your Range Rover! That's the arm that tends to come away and leaves little to ne heat output. It mixes hot and cold air from around or through the matrix, with a flap inside the heater box. You can get someone to operate the temperature knob whilst you see if its doing what it should. Good luck.
Chris Wilson
sorry i have checked that, and that is where it should be, so that is not the problem Have you checked the control knob is actually actuating it though? Theres a way to get the heater controls to flag fault codes, but it's so long since I had to do I forget the exact procedure.
jza800
yes i have checked that too, it goes all the way both ways.. if you find a way to find some fault codes, it would be great..
Chris Wilson
Well, if the blower works, the heat flap moves properly, and the matrix is flowing hot water OK, and the engine thermostat isn't knackered or missing it should blow hot air... At least from some orifice or other.
jza800
the thing i have notice is that the thermostat dont open if the fan is running when the car idle, i have to stop the fan to get the thermostat to open.. i would say that it blow warm air, not hot hot..if i raise the rpm a little i can feel that the air is getting warmere, but as soon as it idle again, some off the warm air disappears again
Chris Wilson
Sounds like it needs a new, genuine Toyota thermostat, correctly fitted with the piddle pin at the top.

Chris Wilson
Genuine Toyota one? Many cheap aftermarket ones open too soon, (rarely too late, they play safe...).

Chris Wilson
I am not sure if the JZA80 also uses a water control valve for the martix, in or around the heater box, that may only be partially opening, I would have to look in the shop manual, or you could download one and see if it uses one, unless someone here knows? jza800
i hope somebody now, as i am running out off ideas i will try to flush the heater martix and see if that help...
