Bayden_uk
Ok guys i've done a search on here and on Google but cant seem to find the answers or any solution to my problem. Ok. at first when I start driving its fine there's no noise. but after a short while i start to get a knocking (its more of a thud) from the rear end. thuds are a bit heavy too and its worse when im breaking. noise usually starts after i've been driving fro about 20 minutes. also I have a knocking noise on the front end when I go over any small bumps. The knocking on the front end i can feel in the peddles and in the steering wheel its that bad. thanks in advance guys. Ben

Nic
It could be one of any number of things, you really need to get the car on a ramp and get it thoroughly checked over underneath by someone who knows what they are doing.
Chris Bailey
As above. Try get the car up on a ramp, give every bolt a tap with a hammer and listen out for anything unusual. Also worth checking things like heatsheilds etc. Maybe also check the engine and gearbox mounts for wear. As well as suspension components . Bayden_uk
ok so i finaly got a day off today. managed to get the car up on the ramps in my mates garage. we checked everything underneath. sub frame, engine mounts, gearbox mounts. suspension, the lot. they were as tight as they can get. took it for a drive and nothings changed. still knocks on the bumps. as for the knocking on speeding up and slowing down, that seems to come and go as it pleases. I was driving down the road the other day and it was knocking. there was a nasty hole coming up in the road so i thought 'f$ck it! im gunna hit it and see if it sorts the problem' funny enough it did for about 10-20 minutes. anyone ells have any more ideas? hoping im slowly closing in on the problem
shaz2010
Could be your brake pads moving around as the shim kit isn't doing its job. Sounds similar to mine and that was it.

bigbloodyturbo
Stupid thought but make sure all your wheel studs are still in place. I had a similar problem during acceleration and when I was done prodding about at sub frame bolts I decided to jack the back up and take the wheels off only to discover 2 studs where gone and one more had broken enough to lose the nut on one wheel and the opposite wheel had lost a couple aswell. It seemed to be a fairly common thing on here at one point people losing wheel studs.
Nic
What suspension is fitted? knocking could be coming from worn suspension top mounts.
Chris Wilson
If it's the pads rattling / knocking just lightly resting your left foot on the brake to load the pads up would stop the noise. If you have aftermrket coil overs I would suspect them, many are truly dire inside, if they are gas charged and they have lost their pressure the floating piston will knock. The pistons come loose or fail, and will knock. Most spherical bearings in them are a totally inadequate spec and start knocking after a while as they wear. Also check the anti roll bar bushes and link rods.

Paul372
I had this on mine I changed a lot of parts before I found out what is was, I changed the engine mounts, arb bushes, drop links but it turned out to be where I had the supe fully geo setup that they hadn't done the bolts up tight enough, only got about half a turn on each bolt but that was enough to stop the knocking
