Will a 6 Speed Nissan s15 gearbox fit the mk4 Supra?

I want to swap my auto box to a 6 speed gear box. As i go through gearboxes like its no ones business and its getting a bit frustrating! i know the v160/ v161 are the best gearbox's to go for with the Supra but they are a fair bit out of my budget at the moment. And i know you can pick up a Nissan s15 gear box for around £850. i was wondering if anyone has had any experience doing this and if its possible? Was also wondering if anyone knows what kind of power figures these boxes can handle and if they can take also the torque. Also will the gear ratios be a problem?

Or does anyone know of any other substitute to the V160 gearbox that can be put in the Supra and take a considerable amount of power.

Thanks guys! [GRIN][/GRIN]

The W58 is known to handle stock power fine, and many people use it with BPU too - though this seems to have very mixed results from what I've seen.

Overall, it is better going to the stock 6 speed IMO. And cost of doing this swap will be added to the value of the car, which won't necessarily be the case with other gearboxes. Plus all the parts are available off the shelf. With a custom gearbox swap, many custom parts will be required.

Tremec T-56 or (hopefully) a Tremec TR6060. A T-56 Magnum has a different input shaft size and spline count I doubt that will work. A T-56 is like v160 strength with R154 feel :)

TR6060 has even more strength and a much nice shift feel, plus you can get all sorts of ratios. It's a double overdrive box with 4th being 1:1

He also does a plate to convert to a toyota auto bell housing so you can fit a T-56 to a uz as well as a jz. it about £200 but you have to sort your own flywheel and clutch et al. Roger Smith can help you with this for the uz engines as he has a custom flywheel and clutch for it (as well as his own adapter for the R154 and Tremec TKO 600).

S15 box is rubbish. Even in my previous car (S15 Silvia Spec-R) I broke at least 4 of them and I was only pushing 310whp.

The Z33 (350Z) gearbox however is different, that can take some serious abuse from what I've heard and experienced. R154 is a really good option but if you do alot of clutch dump launches, don't expect it to last too long.

The supra and the soarer use the same floor pan so no, problem is that soarer R154's are hard to find and most use mk3 supra R154's which are shorter and will need a shifter extension fabricating.

Prices on mk3 R154's are constantly climbing and i found it was cheaper to import a soarer R154 from the states

Now, does that REALLY look like a 7900 mile transmission to you? 2 very dodgy undisputed negative feedbacks, too. How do you get the speed sensor signals from that box?

Fair enough. Didn't look at that because I wasn't buying it.

I've always wondered about the speed signal, though. What's the workaround that people use with the BMW boxes? I assume the R154 has a generic Toyota sensor and output.
