Samurai 20V
Hi Chaps.. Been searching for OEM Suspension arms, they disappearing all over the planet. For the Rear trailing arms, the facelift and pre facelift have different part numbers. I should have the RH side pre-facelift spec, cannot get the LH. For the LH, I can source the Facelift. Would it affect the handling of the car badly if the car had one facelift and one prefacelift arm? What is the difference between the two? Any help appreciated. Thanks. Chris Wilson
I don't know what the difference is, possibly bush compliance, ity would be interesting to see the two side by side. I would say it would be far better to fit a matched pair, of whichever type though. Different compliance, side to side, *MAY* give rear torque steer. dandan
I'm not sure which one you mean when you say trailing arm but I can say for definite that the facelift cars had different sized bushes on some of them and the elastomer is stiffer. I went through the whole exercise of comparing the two with Toyota US a few years ago when I replaced all mine. I opted for the prefacelift lower front arms as they were stiffer bushings. I will have mentioned it in my project thread somewhere...
Chris Wilson
I think he perhaps means the rear toe control links, and different toe changes on each side won't be good. I have to say I had never seen any different part numbers on the rear arms, but I don't recall ever changing rear arms on a late model. marc_p
I would not run mis-matched, the facelift uses much smaller bushing, i know this as I have been poly bushing mine and found that even though my arms are '98, they are actually pre-facelift(toyota liked to mix and match some parts!) and the facelift bushes I had were considerably too small. He'll mean the rear lower control arms, iirc that was the only suspension difference between the two.

I have managed to get pricing on the facelift arms so I will have the matched set, I canceled the order on the pre-facelift arm. According to the diagram below, the rear upper arms and the No.1 arm is the same for the prefacelift and the facelift. The difference on the rear is only the trailing arm (No. 2 arm)... So I will have a facelift rear setup basically with my parts order. I will have mentioned it in my project thread somewhere... I read your thread, it seems as though the arms are interchangeable bet the facelift and prefacelift so I should be safe? marc_p
Diagram shows the arm I am talking about. Yup, thats the one, the busing where it bolts to the subframe is smaller, but you should have no fitment issues as the subframe is identical.
