Scooter
how do you think that will help you get the sump out?
Dave
If I drop the crossmember I can then pull the sump out can't i ? It's just the small sump not the whole thing The back of the pan is hitting the cross member took all the bolts out and levered it down but still not enough room Edited April 5, 2015 by Dave (see edit history)
Scooter
The suspension arm bolt that I think you mean is just attached to the front subframe so won't help. you could remove the x2 engine mount nuts underneath 17mm or 19mm deep socket needed, and then at the front near the crank pulley gently jack up the sump (this is presuming you are just trying to remove the black tin sump part?) Scooter
Ah I think I see what bolt you mean now, sorry. I'd still try raising the engine a little if you only need a little more room.

Chris Wilson
Undo the engine mount lower nuts, lift engine with a properly designed cross beam on the inner wings. Later rue why you didn't just pull the engine out in the first place

Later rue why you didn't just pull the engine out in the first place Unfortunately I don't have an engine lift,I'm doing this in my driveway ,what if I put axle stands under the engine mounts then lower the car down will this work ,have been told by another member to drop the rear sub frame but can't get the bolt out of the wishbone .in the pic ,am wasting my time doing it this way ? Thanks for your advice Chris ----dave
Chris Wilson
Hire or even buy an engine support BEAM, not an engine hoist. They have a screw threaded hook or hooks on a hefty bar that sits over the engine. You turn the threaded hook and it lifts the engine. I am sure somewhere will hire them. This is the sort of thing: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-Engine-support-double-beam-bar-stand-motor-500kg-traverse-lifter-gearbox-New-/191484773507?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2c9561c483
