Tyre Issue

So basically the Supra has sat for the winter and I have recently done a local meet, and a 200+ mile trip to Santa pod. All went well.

The other day I was installing the new boot build and rolled the car forward a few feet forward in the garage. Working away and once the jobs done I roll the car back to its original position.

On passing the front right of the car I hear a Hissing, thought "great a puncture must have gone over something on the floor I hadn't noticed". Anyway it was late so locked the garage up to tackle it later.

I have just gone out and remove said flat wheel, checked for a nail or similar item and nothing..... so pumped it back up to find this 'puncture'. The wheel seems to be leaking air from the inner bead of the alloy  seems real strange as it had been fine and all I did was roll it forward to cause this issue.

Now I would guess this isn't a problem with the wheel as it was fine before hand.

Any suggestions? :search: Where should I go from here.

Check for a buckle on the rim, you may have gone over a pothole and its damaged the rim slightly. Sometimes you cant hit the rim back into shape if its only a very minor buckle.

Thats the thing it looks fine and like I say was fine sat there for a week or so, and months previous. I pushed the car on the flat about two foot and now an issue.

Rim bead corrosion. Remove tyre have rim wire brushed, put sealant on it, await for it happening again. Alloys are a pain, sometimes steel rims have their advantages. Sometimes that even includes weight of the wheel.

Thanks Chris, got a day to sort it out, if I take it to a normal tyre garage will they be able to sort it do you think? If not I have a wheel specialist not far.

Oh God, yes, they see this several times a day, every day. Alloy wheels are notorious for bead corrosion.

Having said that the wife bought a Soarer TT many years back and the front tyre kept slowly going down. I took the wheel off and submerged it in water and found the rim was cracked. An Enkei cast rim. I welded it up, and damn it, it held out, she's still here... ;)

Had this with one of my Beemer alloys recently on a Sunday, so had no choice but Kwik Fit

They said it would need a refurb

On Monday took it in to my normal small independent tyre place and he took the tyre off, wire brushed it and put the tyre back on for a £10 note, been fine since

Local independents are much better than the nationals, they only want the big paying work

Well that was rather concerning, tyres is missing a massive chunck along the inner bead where it joins the wheel. It must have happened when fitting! Scary stuff considering I was considering running up the strip at pod!

Rather annoying too as the tyre is still practically brand new, about 1500 miles on it.

Anyway ordered another Falken should be back to health by this afternoon. And then the supra is getting her yearly service :D
