P_Bazz Posted March 30, 2015 Share Posted March 30, 2015 100N equals roughly 10kgs of force, of course you want to exceed the actual weight of the tailgate in order to lift it but you can measure it relatively easy by pushing up at the pivot points with a scale and a stick. The gas strut moves through quite a large angle as the tailgate opens. You would have to push on your stick at the same angle as the gas struts when the hatch is closed and again at the angle when the hatch is open to see which gives the greater figure (probably when the hatch is closed).
