AlexJames
My Celica tailgate is only a little lighter than the Supra tailgate... Anyone roughly know the force needed to lift it? 100N 200N ?
Digsy
No idea, but I know that there are two types of (genuine) gas springs for the Supra: One for cars fitted with a rear wing and those without.
P_Bazz
100N equals roughly 10kgs of force, of course you want to exceed the actual weight of the tailgate in order to lift it but you can measure it relatively easy by pushing up at the pivot points with a scale and a stick. The gas strut moves through quite a large angle as the tailgate opens. You would have to push on your stick at the same angle as the gas struts when the hatch is closed and again at the angle when the hatch is open to see which gives the greater figure (probably when the hatch is closed). AlexJames
Good points... I guess the next question is then.. how much does a tailgate weigh?
