Havard
Tragic for anyone to be killed at a motorsport event, especially spectators who are blissfully unaware of the danger they are in. Reminds me of this crash at Le Mans in 2011. We were only about 20 yards back from this and got showered in carbon fibre. Watching the video, we were so lucky as the wheel is launched up in the air and just misses the photographer in the blue vest. The wheel then cannons off the back wall and goes the other side of him. He seems oblivious..!! 19 secs to 22 secs, bottom of the screen. H.

Pixelfill
Awful! I know Motorsport can be dangerous, but you have to believe you are safe behind the catch fencing. Thoughts with the spectators nearby and the family of the poor person who died. Can't be easy for the driver either knowing that you survived but ultimately were responsible for the loss of life. bignum
He left the track at Flugplatz 1 of the faster parts of the circuit where speeds reach near 200mph, so not good.
gordy.r
Was sad to read about this today and see the video. And to think at some parts of the track you can can stand within a foot of the tarmac itself with only a flimsy barrier between you and the action. Scary stuff. Feel for all involved. Thorin
Awful! I know Motorsport can be dangerous, but you have to believe you are safe behind the catch fencing. It sounds like there are two fences there, the catch fence, and a second fence designed to keep spectators even further back away from the catch fence. Photos show chairs set up right next to the catch fence, so sadly looks like they'd just not stayed behind the fence.
creative
Wow. Not alot you can do as a driver if all 4 wheels are pointing towards the sky and not the road! Tragedy indeed.

ManwithSupra
There isn't much you can do if your car takes off, although its not much consolation for the driver. Hurting or killing a spectator is going to make you feel terrible. I feel for the driver and for the family of the spectators. RIP.
