Paul
So, after a decent pay rise and the saying 'you're a long time dead' my thoughts are on getting a new motor. At the moment I'm thinking of a used Aston Martin DB9.....or.....an Audi R8 Any experiences or opinions. BTW I promised myself a DB9 by the age of 50 which is 18 months away. Budget circa £50/55K
safcdixon
Do it, you only live once, Db9
Kaan W
Out of the 2 the DB9 would be my first choice, I do like the R8s though.
rob wild
Depends on what your after tbh, I was very disappointed with the R8 v8 as a performance car! The V10 was better! I also like the F430 http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/ferrari/430-coupe/ferrari-f430-4-3-f1-2dr-carboceramic-brakes--sat-nav/3233572 Lambo http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/lamborghini/gallardo/lamborghini-gallardo-e-gear-coupe-5-0ltr-v10-2005/2857293 F type http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/jaguar/f-type/2013-13-reg--jaguar-f-type-5-0-s-2dr-quickshift--1-owner--sports-exhaust/3833422

j_jza80
Here's a few ideas, all of which are appreciating in value now M3 CSL http://www.speedhunters.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/CSL_Carousel.jpg Ferrari F355 996 Turbo http://www.geecar.com/1/2pic/996_turbo_sportec_02.jpg 993 Carrera DB7 GT http://wallpapers111.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/2003-Aston-Martin-DB7-GT-Wallpapers-4.jpg Original Viper GTS Coupe in the proper colours V12 E-Type convertible http://www.classiccarhire.com/images/classic%20motoring%20red_1247.jpg NSX
Wez
An Aston would be nice, although you could get a very tidy Vantage and have plenty of change left over - - - Updated - - - Also agree with the 355 and 996T options
JamieP
I like the F-type. if in budget I'd go for that over the others mentioned.
wile e coyote
355 or nsx here
Scott
If you're looking at modern then I'm with Jamie. I can't see past the F-Type Jag at the moment, it's a stunning car. Not sure if the coupe would be an option, as it's the one to have. I'm not up on my "cars I can't afford" values so apologies if it's outwith budget. Looking at the above picture I ended up not seeing anything but the V12 E-Type convertible. If I owned that I think I would spend hours just sitting in it and looking at it from different angles. Graham1984
Get a NA..... nothing says, and aids "mid life crisis" like a NA.
j_jza80
I would very much recommend the V6S F-Type, although I would be tempted to hold out and buy one with a manual gearbox in a year or so If you want a cheaper alternative, then you will get one of these monsters within budget: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/jaguar/xkr/jaguar-xkr-s-5-0-2dr-sat-nav-jaguar-history/3775415 But either of these Jags will depreciate. Jord
I go with the F Type or Aston. Audis are too common
Scott
If Aston is really up on the list, take one for a drive before setting your heart on it. The drive/position is a bit marmite IMO.

Havard
If Aston is really up on the list, take one for a drive before setting your heart on it. The drive/position is a bit marmite IMO. As are the running costs. I couldn't own a car where it would cost £4 - 5K for a clutch. I like the R8 but the performance that Rob Wild mentions would worry me. Porsche 997C2S for the win if you want fun. M3CSL or NSX if you want something that appreciates.

Eddie-S
A nice position to be in so choose wisely and I don't mean with your head. Some fantastic alternatives mentioned. Everyone will bring a smile to your face, but the only one you will regret not getting is the Aston Martin DB9. It's a no brainer...
trebor69
I quite like the look of the Maserati 3200GT, would save you loads too. Spend the rest on making one amazing Supra.
Abz
You can pick up DB9's for less than £30k these days, great cars IMO... not very quick but great cabin and looks fantastic, stock exahust is way too muted. http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/aston-martin/db9-coupe/2004-54-plate-aston-martin-db9-touchtronic-coupe-done-60342-miles/3663264 Personally for a 50 year gift I would go with one of these... http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/bentley/continental-gtc/bentley-continental-gtc-auto/3787551 Up there with one of the best cars I have ever driven!
