masterfett
So was driving home being followed by my boss, a bit of spirited acceleration onto the dual carriageway nothing crazy only to about 90. He messaged me to say there was a puff of white smoke and a smell of oil as I changed gear. I thought this odd so had a look over the engine bay, under the smic pipe from the engine down was black ish oily crud. Could this be a turbo oil sill? Not going to lie I will be pretty pissed if it is as I had hybrids put on by whifbitz last august, the car is at standard boost and has coverd less than 1000 miles.. Pootled about with the odd little blast. Any ideas input would be great..p.s it was compression rtested valve stem sills etc done whilst with whifbitz. Swampy442
Turbo oil seals means exhaust side, you wouldn't see anything in the intake pipework, its probably just breather.
listy
Front crank seal maybe? If there is oil all over the lower front of the engine and underneath then that's probably the culprit.
masterfett
I see. Thanks! Listy crank was replaced whilst the rest of the work was done so I can't imagine it could be that, will jack it up tommorow and check for any signs of oil, looked clean other than the underside of the intake pipe .. Very odd.
masterfett
P.s why would it smell oily, fuel i get as its double decat but oil is a bit alarming!
Ric
Oil is blue Fuel is black White is steam/condensation or coolant
masterfett
Hmm well I need to speak to him tommorow and find out if it was definitely white, seems unusual after 5 miles of running that when second turbo kicks in and I change gear it would still be steam or condensation. Thanks for the replies guys, feel a little less worried now
Mk4Gaz
Oil being burnt in the combustion chamber shows up blue, if it's burnt directly in the turbo on the exhaust side, it'll come out white.

Mk4Gaz
If it's burning at the turbo, it'll be pretty thick smoke, and very white! If it's only happened once, or isn't happening all the time, I'd try not to worry about it but just keep an eye on it. You'd easily notice in your rear view mirror if the turbo oil seals were going
