I'm sitting in the car looking at this... http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/15/03/26/507718ab4b786887c0b1b49079b0f49d.jpg The boss is all in I'm just trying to connect it all up. The yellow connector was plugged into the old airbag so I assume this stays unplugged. I just can't work out what to do with the other 3 which I am hoping are for the horn. The horn button on my new wheel is pictured below. It plugs into the top plug on the picture below. There is one connection to the cruise control buttons and then these 3 white ones which I was hoping were for the horn? Scott Posted March 28, 2015 Share Posted March 28, 2015 I can see 2 of them being used but not 3. Do you have the instructions sort he boss? Have you googled for install notes? Did you take note of what pins the plug idea and which pins are which wires? You can try trial and error but you'll probably blow fuses. One of them, at least, will be 12v. Ric Posted March 28, 2015 Share Posted March 28, 2015 There must be a ground on the horn button. Either it has a connection somewhere, or it grounds by just installing it on the Boss. As Scott says, get a tester on the 3 spade connectors, one will be 12v, if you touch it against the boss the horn will sound. Connect that to your horn button and install the horn/wheel and try it. Scott Posted March 28, 2015 Share Posted March 28, 2015 The horn button definitely grounds to the boss, that's what the angled copper/brass bit sticking out the side is. IMO one of the spade terminals should be on the boss for ground and one of the other connections will be for the horn. I have no idea what the 3rd is for. Took us ages to work out what was going on. I had 3 wires in the boss and 2 prongs on the horn but the stock wheel has just 1 wire. And no combinations worked. After we worked it out I saw 2 of my wires in the loom that came with the boss went nowhere. If your horn has 2 prongs like mine then plug the wire in the boss to one prong and then take another bit of wire (The wire from your old stock wheel has a nice connector already) from the other prong and earth it somewhere. I trapped it under the big central nut that holds the boss on. The stock horn works like this. (I'm no electrician btw) The wheel has a single connector to a moving frame attached to the central section of the wheel. That then connects to another metal bit completing the circuit when you press it. So the horn goes off. The connection to earth is already there. But your wheel doesn't have that it's just a button that makes the connection for you. So you need to give it something to connect to, like an earth. That triggers the horn. The earth is going to be anything metal. You can test where works with a wire. Not sure if you only have one prong though. Sorry. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Mk4Gaz Posted March 29, 2015 Share Posted March 29, 2015 One of those wires needs connecting directly to the boss - via a small ring crimp. It'll be fiddly, but one of the allen head bolts holding the wheel to the boss should pass through the connector, clamping it to the boss. One of them will connect to the horn button One of them should be unused. If you have a scrap piece of wire, push it into one of the spare connectors on your loom, and touch it to on the boss. If it triggers the horn, that is the wire that goes to the horn button. One of the other two will be the earth for the horn circuit, and needs connecting directly to the boss. Just had to use a little bracket that came with the boss that aloud the little bronze bit on the back of the button to connect with boss. Located which one if the 3 white connectors had a pulse and my horn works! Just had to modify the back of the horn button slightly so it all fits nice and snug. Here is the finished result and I prefer it to the worn out Toyota wheel from before but I got the wheel cheap off eBay and it's not perfect condition and it's a bit small for my liking. I shall hunt down a slightly larger wheel in better nick and swap it I think. It is a marked improvement though I think.
