Dnk
I can't get through to the DVLA so thought i'd ask you guys as its been a while since i did this. My Range Rover has the previous owners personal plate on it which i said they could have back once i'd finished getting it back on the road. Its now taxed, insured and mot'd I put the reg on retention using form V317 and make him the new grantee so the retention certificate will be in his name and get sent to him. Obviously the DVLA will issue my Range Rover with a new number, do i have to send the VC5 which is in my name and current mot with the application ? Thanks
Chris Wilson
As far as I know, and can see from my up to date transfer form, you just send the registration document, and not the MOT certificate
Dnk
I've read it a few times and can't see any mention of the mot, i guess as its all online these days that will get changed when the new reg is issued but my copy of the mot wont be ? Chris Wilson
Do MOT certificates still cite the VIN plate number as well as the reg number? I can't remember... I know I have had cars without an issued reg plate MOT tested in the past and the MOT certificate JUST cited the VIN plate number.
Dnk
VIN number and reg on the MOT. When ever i changed reg numbers in the past i took the mot with me which came back stamped and with the new reg number written on it it hence me thinking i should send that as well but no mention of it on the V317
Jamesy
When I change a plate off a car I send off: log book, cheque for retention, V317 form and MOT I usually then get back to the new log book with MOT matching the new licence plate. A couple of weeks later I get the retention certificate so I can put it onto another car in the future. Also, now days you have to send it directly to dvla Swansea whereas in the past it was sent to your local dvla office.
Dnk
Yes i used to take mine to the local office but they are all shut now When did you last change a reg James, was it recently ?
Jamesy
yeah last month mate. only weird thing was they sent back the mot but hadn't changed it over to the original plate!!
Dnk
I just got through to the DVLA Send the V317 & VC5 with a cheque for £80, no need for the mot to be sent now
Dnk
I guess i can print off the V317 rather than have to go get one ?
Jamesy
Yeah print it off mate
Jamesy
, no need for the mot to be sent now I don't get this bit though, as the MOT wont match the car anymore!
Dnk
I don't get this bit though, as the MOT wont match the car anymore! That's what i thought hence i checked. It must change on the mot data base so our bit of paper is somewhat pointless as you don't really need it anymore
Jamesy
Yeah true, now tax is done online surely the MOT's will follow.... save us losing them all the time!
Chris88
When I changed the reg on my car (just before they closed the local DVLA offices) they didn't need the MOT. Later when I needed to get a copy of the MOT I went to a Halfords service centre with the V5 and they printed a new MOT from the database (cost me a tenner). The new MOT certificate had the new reg on it.
Chris Wilson
What is an MOT anyway?
