jza800
Now i have come across the oil cooler, i have read that where you connect the hose have to turn up, but as you can see in my Picture i dont have the room so the oil cooler connectings could turn up, is it fine to put the oil cooler as shown on the Picture with the hose connectings on the side instaed of they turning up?? Tricky-Ricky
You can just use straight fittings or turn around the cooler, there is nothing saying you need 90deg fittings.
jza800
it was not what I meant, as you can see in the pictures, they turn up on this, and to the side of mine, and have just heard the one should be facing up
Tricky-Ricky
Not quite sure just what you mean, are you saying that the hose fittings you have are 90deg? and you wont have enough hose length to mount in that position? if so why not remount the cooler, or move it. jza800
i have now put some red arrows where you Mount the fittings to the oil cooler, have read that they should be facing up and not to the side???
Tricky-Ricky
Orientation makes no difference, you can fit the cooler upside down and have the fittings at any angle, the oil is under pressure so you wont get air locks.
jza800
thanks for the reply, I will get some bracket fixed, so I can get it secured to the car
absz
I fitted mine as per the first picture sideways and had no issues:)
pedrosixfour
If you do mount it sideways I'd imagine that the oil feed from the sandwich plate should be piped to the bottom oil cooler fitting. Maybe it wouldn't make a difference but that's the way I'd plumb it if I was going to. I always thought mounting the cooler with the fittings at the top was a bit of a nuisance, when changing the oil you'd need to remove the cooler itself to drain what was in it. I mounted mine with the fittings to the bottom, mainly because it was the easiest way to pipe it but it does make draining the oil from the cooler a lot simpler. Also I think once the cooler is mounted below the level of the sandwich plate there is no real chance of the oil draining out of the cooler and leading to a pressure delay on every start-up. Tricky-Ricky
For the amount of oil held in the pipes and cooler its not worth draining it for every oil change, never did with mine and I doubt that many do as its such a PITA.

Yeah, I suppose, but with the cooler mounted so & with the bumper being detachable there is very little in the line of hassle with draining mine. Chris Wilson
If the ports are on their side, or pointing down the cooler will try and gravity drain back into the sump. Hose heights etcetera play a part, but it's best avoided altogether. Fit coolers with ports at the top, and if you need 90 degree fittings use swept, not forged ones. You *MUST* use an oil filter with an anti drain back valve though, but even then they can drain back through the oil pump over time, giving a long time when starting with no oil pressure until the lines and cooler refill with oil. Tricky-Ricky
But if the cooler is mounted lower than the take off point it wont drain back, as the take off and return are both in the same position.

Chris Wilson
I can't see any reason at all you cannot have it with the ports at the top, what's the problem?
jza800
because off my powersterring cooler and condenser to the aircon.. and i cant move the powersterring cooler, as the hose not are long enough, and the condenser cant be moved either, and there is not room to have it under the condenser.. thats why
