Shaleskin
Hi there, I recently bought a Supra, turbo's need a rebuild (burning oil). It's had HKS forged pistons fitted way back when, 264(Longer duration/higher lift?) intake cam as well as cam pulleys installed. Are HKS pistons rated or slated for supra's? Are 650cc injectors too much for 445bhp? Cold idle it's fine then after a minute or 2 it starts hunting for idle even when it's warm. Would this be the ICV jammed? (Like the common issue with Mr2 Turbo's?) That's it for now. Thanks!
jazz1
Hey I would take your car to SRD, they are based near you Sussex .
Abz
650's are fine, stock JSpecs is 440 & folks run 420bhp but that's at high fuel duty. Unless you are experienced around these or have time to read up on the forum I'd get it checked by a proper Supra specialist (like SRD). Doesn't sound like it is running a lot of power for a single turbo setup, worth mentioning what ECU you are running. Also maybe worth putting the car up on here, someone may know the car. Shaleskin
It's running the original turbo's in parralel, both rebuilt back in 2004. It's been hooked up with an emanage piggy back (info from the massive service history) and the owner is on here but not sure if he'll know anymore than I do In June when I can insure it ill get it driven up to SRD no worries. For now just wanted to tackle some bits in my driveway like I've done with all my cars tomorrow I'm going to give the ICV a clean and give the car a beginning of a service for piece of mind. Yep the ICV do need a clean, sorry I am on my phone but their is a guide on here to troubleshoot ICV issues.

Shaleskin
Ta for the link! I'll get on with that and get back when I no doubt have another issue.
Shaleskin
Right, removed the spark plugs and I've got BKR6EIX (iridiums) in there coated in carbon. When would one normally go up a heat range? I've got BRK7E's in my mr2 to keep det at bay when boosting. I've always hated iridium plugs but do they generally work well in these engines or am I better getting the copper plugs as a replacement? mellonman
http://www.mkiv.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?41927-FAQ-Spark-plugs but also could be running rich if the piggy back is not mapped correctly , has it got the stock o2 sensor in place and do you have a wideband afr gauage ? That was a good read thanks for pointing me to it. I'm hoping to get copper plugs that are 7e as on a lot of the service history I got with this car it shows the iridium have been removed, brushed up and put back in. There's no AFR gauge or wideband installed but this car was mapped with the same setup a fair few years ago. Including road testing etc. My concern is when Idling it starts to hunt and almost stall but as soon as you push the throttle it runs fine with the odd miss (hence I'm replacing the plugs for good measure). I'm looking forward to driving this when I get it running right Edited March 22, 2015 by Shaleskin (see edit history)
