Guest SnaillessJZA80
So I've had an interesting morning. Drove to the shops the morning, car was behaving as usual, no signs of any problems, then when I jumped in to drive home I was met with a horrible idle, a engine check light and a heap of black smoke coming out the back... Managed to limp it home (wasn't fun) and now it's parked in the shed. From what I've found this sounds like a map sensor (labeled sensor assy, vacuum) failure. What I was hoping to find out is that is there a way to check if it's the sensor itself, or whether somewhere along the line a wire has decided to shit itself? Cheers. Part no on the map is 89420-14080, dunno of that matters.

Guest SnaillessJZA80
Did the diagnosis bridging te1 and e1 and no codes were shown. Hopefully going to get a proper diagnostic tool off a friend of my dads sometime soon though so hopefully I'll be able to see how everything is working Edited March 18, 2015 by SnaillessJZA80 (see edit history)
Nodalmighty
Sounds like a split/popped off vacuum hose.
Guest SnaillessJZA80
Sorry, been really busy with uni and the supra has sat in the shed for the last Month... I checked the hose coming off the sensor, its completely fine. Does anyone know where I could find a wiring diagram or something that shows what sort of voltage / resistance I should be looking for going into the sensor so I can check if it's the sensor itself or if it's not getting the right signal to it? Thanks
Chris Wilson
It should show exactly 5V on one of its pins referenced to ground with the ignition turned on. The other two pins are ground and signal out which will vary with vacuum / pressure applied to the MAP sensor port.
