Walbro, fcd boost cont ect??

when i got my car i got a few new bits with it still in the box.

hks fuel cut deffender

decat pipe

apexi boost controler

walbro fuel pump

 

im a bit new to supras but have worked out i need to fit my fcd when i fit the decat.

 

so 2 questions

 

is it worth fitting my boost controler on stock turbos?

 

when do i need to fit my walbro?

Hey, welcome gzaerojon, it's good to see another local member :)

 

Is your car j-spec or uk spec?

 

Basically if you have a j-spec you will almost certainly get extra boost with the de-cats alone (maybe too much, you will probably want to use a restrictor to keep the boost at or below 1.2bar for safety).

 

If it's a uk spec, the boost will most likely remain un affected by the de-cats, so fit the boost controller.

 

You will need to fit the FCD if you are running more than 1bar boost or so - by the sounds of it you plan to. The Thor VFCD (£70) is the recommended fuel cut defender, not sure on the HKS one, anyone?

 

As Jake says, fit the walbro anytime, sooner the better. It's as much a saftey precaution than anything. A tired old pump might lead to underfueling and a dead engine, so if your upping the boost then do the pump too!

 

I'm about to do the same, I'll be doing the pump too for safety and to cope with any future tuning needs...

yeah i run a jspec, i also have a boost gauge fitted.

i'll deffinatly have to fit the b controller and walbro.

i think i should be ok with the b controller once i've worked out a cool place to put the screen,

but fitting the fuel pump hmmmm... i read the instructions but the idea of my dodgy wiring submerged in fuel :bang: :bang:

my wiring actually not too bad, but its just the idea touching fuel. maybe im just a chickhen sh*t but i'd be gutted if it went wrong.

I think some good quality soldering and heat shrink sleeving (PTFE type?) will make for a good job though. Nervous about an open tank of fuel though lol.

 

No worries, fit your EBC but on a j-spec you might not have much use for it because the car will automatically boost near the limit anyway...

 

There is a Brighton mini meet on the 15th, arranged by supradibbs. Why not come along :)

If you have a restrictor ring that is sized so that the car won't overboost even on the coldest days a good EBC is a great deal of use. Also the GReddy PRofec E-01 boost controller I use seems to really improve the midrange boost compared to having no boost controller.

Good point, it seems that most of the restrictors around are sized towards 1.2 bar though? Did you make your own?

 

I have a restrictor ring to fit, no idea what boost I'm going to get, if it's not close to 1.2 bar then I to will be using an EBC, probably the same E-01 (as it looks lovely and interfaces to the emanage ultimate :woot: )

 

How much can boost vary between a hot and cold day (or rather a day with high or low pressure...)?

yeah i'll be up for that, i just hope i get through the MOT on saturday. the'll probably get me on beam alignment as they always do (bastads) but i have had them in and about 50 times while fitting my new bomex bumper (still in white) if i make it through mot i'll be needing to spray it a bit fast before i drive it, i dont do work in progress multi coloured cars.

 

i might have a go at the fuel pump this week, i'd better buy an electic soldering iron as mines a gas one :scare: that could be fun!

On the hottest days my car can't make more than 0.9bar without the EBC, on a really cold day it makes 1.2 bar even with the PRofec turned off.

There's no set restrctor plate size for a certain amount of boost. With identical restrictors you would get different boost levels on different j-specs.

 

 

Are you sure the PRofec e01 works with the eManage Ultimate? I thought it didn't. That would be a nice bonus though.

Well it def works with the emanage doesn't it? Are you wondering if it works with the ultimate, well I thought it did, might need further investigation on that one then lol

 

PS: yeah I realise that boost varies between cars, mine is already making 0.9 - 1.0 bar with both cats in lol

 

wow that much variation? thats a lot! maybe an ebc is essential to keep it at the level you want then

ok, i've been looking through the contents of my fuel pump kit and found that the spring clip thing that holds the filter on is missing. theres always something!!

anyone got one?

or knows where i can get one?

 

i think its gonna be easier than i first thought as i can take the fuel pump holder away from the car and solder it :nana:
