Window barely winding up/down getting stuck

So ive had this problem once before, but it went away by itself...tends to appear on the colder months (although this only happened the other day, and we've had colder!)

The window winds down extremely slowly, and just grinds to a halt, sounds like the motor is really struggling. Then when i try to put it back up, it just whirs and the window moves a few cm and gets stuck. I had to manually pull the damn thing up while continuously pressing the switch up then down to wiggle it back up.

Now that its up, it wont go down, i can hear the motor struggling then stopping with the window moving less then a cm vertically. Theres also a gritty sound cooming from it...it doesnt sound smooth.

Any thoughts on this? Not sure what its going to be...will take the doorcard off and inspect the mechanism, but i dont know what ill be looking for? Maybe some WD40 squirted into it?
