mplavery
We just moved in to our new home and I want to replace the iron gates with 6ft wood gates for privacy .. We're in Middlesex and just wondered before I start calling all sorts of company's can anyone recommend me someone .. Never fitted gates so best they get fitted as well lol I'm hoping they can use the existing iron post which are holding up the current gates Cheers

JamieP
You talking electric? If so we use allround engineering in slough, expensive but good. Failing that there is some decent deals to be found online, fit yourself.
mplavery
Cheers Jamie No not electric ... Just wanted the privacy to stop people looking in .. Been looking at it further and I may just fit them myself .. I'm guessing I can reuse the old iron post and just fit the wooden gates ... Chris Wilson
Depends how long and heavy each gate leaf is, and if the posts are tall enough for what might need to be 6 foot plus gates physically and aesthetically. There may also well be planning permission issues with tall gates. Of course post diameter, section and how well rooted they are will matter. If in doubt dig them out and use something more suitable. You'd pay good money at a gym for similar exercise time Proper hardwood gates are expensive. Softwood ones a PITA as they'll warp and rot in no time. gavin.starr
Make your own its not that hard. I used metal box section so that the gates wont sag the same as wooden gates.
Chris Wilson
Ball bearing hinges? Wow, no holds barred, I guess they get opened and closed a lot? Are they stainless bolts, too?
gavin.starr
All stainless bolts too chris I plan to put an electronic opening mech on them eventually so i can have a key fob for the Supra and the motorbike so i dont have to mess around opening and closing them behind me all the time.
