jot_ie
Hi all Something that's been frying my brain as I'm trying to specify sizes for some new wheels. I understand the whole thing about offsets having to change with wheel widths etc., and have tried the online calculators. The key part that's missing is the available clearances. They will all tell you that your new wheel will move ....mm closer to the strut or .....mm further out or .....mm taller. By any chance does anybody know what clearances we have to play with... i.e by comparison to stock 17 x 9.5 ET 50 Rears, and 17 x 8 ET 50 Fronts.......what are the dimensions to the shocks/springs......to the outer edge of the body (rolled or not), and how tall is the body lip by comparison. I'm thinking without these the calculators are useless.... Any know these dimensions by any chance? John
mattdavies
I know its no less then 11.5 inches from arch to strut
jot_ie
Matt Is that to a standard arch with lip or to a cut/folded arch? John
mattdavies
Matt Is that to a standard arch with lip or to a cut/folded arch? John I am guessing Cut/Rolled arch. People running CCWs have a 11.5 rear wheel therefore that has to be at least this so probably closer to 12" of space. The outer limit is a 10" ET 25-30 wheel I would say
jot_ie
According to the calculators:- 10 ET25 will extend the wheel 31mm more than stock (17 ET50) 10 ET30 will extend the wheel 26 mm more than stock. (lots more clearance on the inside for both, over stock) Suppose I'm trying to establish... is around the 31 mm mark the limit for pushing the outer edge of the wheel outwards. All I need then is the inner limit..... and fill (almost), the space between with wheel. I'm hoping to run 11" or 11.5" rears with an almost flush look
mattdavies
CCW supply a 11.5" rear wheel et50 as fitted to Luxluc silver car
jot_ie
Was just looking at his build post. He mentions that the wheels are 18 x 11.5 ET 52 with a 3mm spacer. Without the spacers the inner lip should be just over 27mm closer to the strut than stock and just over 24mm further out. With the spacer that's 24 mm closer to the strut and 27 mm further out......and he only had to roll slightly. Going on that it would appear that the clearance over stock 17 x 9.5 wheels is about +25 towards the strut and about +30 towards the arch (rolled). So an 11.5 ET 49 wheel should be just right. That's bonkers if it works, as it would appear to do. As I have been reading about offsets in the range of 35 +/- 5 on some websites, which would make the above not work .....
