starter or wiring, that's the question

Virus

Recommended Posts

So today went to MOT & it's the first time she was driving on operating temps again for a while. Arrived at the MOT & suddenly, she wouldn't start. My friend and I did some research & my friend concludes it's the wiring thats worn out & just messes up when it's hot. I however think because of the heat, the starter gets all fuzzy & starts failing there.

Any ideas? If you have questions, please ask :)

One click when i turn over the key. Sometimes she wants to starts, turns over a few times, but doesn't manage to actually start. Also noticed after today, after she's cold from not running 8 hours, she doesn't start on the first time aswell.

Personally think it's the starter but just checking others opinions since i'm not a super sayan when it comes to cars :p

Check the battery with a meter , if it doesn't show at least 12.6 to 13 V then its ether not in good condition or not charging, which you can also check with the meter, it should show between 13.2 and 14V with the engine running, if all of this checks out the you can start looking at the starter motor and associated wiring.

Check the battery, if its good I would follow this thread http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?51682-How-To-Overhaul-starter-motor-contacts&highlight=starter+motor

I have just done this to mine and sorted it ,

You can probably get away with keep try to start it , on off on off on off until it turns over but will at some point not start at all

I know I have a bad starter in my na it will sometimes fire straight up other times I get a single click and it can take several attempts to start but when it does start it runs fine. When your car is running does it seem to go ok or do you notice any other problems. I'd Definatly do the checks with a multi meter first to rule out a bad battery or charging system
