I bought a set of UKs recently and previous had a HID kit with my Jspec lights, I wanted to reduce the clutter (ballasts) and just buy some decent bulbs. Would these work?

Hid on high beam or dipped? I was always told not to bother with hid on high beam, when flashing others it takes a while for them to light up or something.... tbh the hid on my dipped have a brief second of being bright, then dim and then rebrighten, so it may actually work fine.

This, allegedly it can ruin the bulbs as they don't get to heat up properly. Behind your lights must be a tangled mess of cables/ballasts etc :D

Sorry I mean the LED is on the high beam, just giving the light output as an example.

HID is on the dipped beam, yep they need to warm as you say.

Lol. I only have a simgle ballast on each side. As with the op I want to update the lights on the car, and as you can imagine I dont want ballasts everywhere either but if i become compelled to do something a bit more than the xenons, id defimitely consider HID. Tbh, my hids were 30quid, now about 4 years old and never given me any issues.

From what I've read the ones with built in cooling fans are the brightest and best to go with, if you have a look here there are a lot to choose from. I'd be interested in feedback from anyone who has fitted them.

Now they are interesting, indeed...but 3200LM is way less exciting than the 6400 that's headlined (2x 3200)

Just going to bump this thread. I am after a bright white high beam bulb. Currently running hids on low beam and fogs and the yellow high beam is just not a good look. Has anyone found a solution to having a nice bright white high beam bulb that looks hid-like and works well enough for a high beam bulb to light the whole road when its on??

Theres just nothing out there besides HIDs that don't activate fast enough for High beam...crees are CRAP. they produce no light near suitable for high beams, they look white due to the smd and that's about it. I got me normal bulbs with a blue tint, light normally but when your driving other cars see a slight blue tint in there that looks great next to the hids..

Looking forward to hearing your comments on the LED lights Nic.

Received the LED bulbs from China - which took a couple of weeks - and they look well made. I've test fitted them on the MR2 and they are significantly brighter than the Osram Nightbreaker bulbs I'm currently using, once the car is back on the road I'll be able to give them a proper test.

i need to replace my main beams too, there yellow vs the 6k I have

I need to change my Full Beam bulbs too as currently can barely be noticed when my HID dipped lights are on. Considering something like these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/80W-CREE-4th-Gen-LED-High-Beam-Kit-7200LM-Color-Change-5k-6k-8k-Bulbs-9005-J-/181736334329?hash=item2a505463f9:g:DTcAAOSwgkRVSRxj

You will have different regs in IReland, over here they are fine

As far as I know we have the same MOT regulations as mainland UK, as we're in Northern Ireland. I know the south is completely different as they have the NCT. You could be right though, there may be small differences. I know you have appointed MOT garages whereas we have governmant ran MOT centres!

Hi Nic, have you had chance to give the LED lights a proper test yet? I noticed in another thread you've recently purchased some HID lights so wasn't sure how these turned out.

I've not had a chance to properly test them whilst driving at night as the car is off the road. I've test fitted them in the high beam on the MR2 (with projector lenses fitted) they are very bright and they light up the road ahead well but they don't form a 'beam' of light like a normal bulb, the light seems more 'scattered' over a broader area, so it's possible the distance the light reaches is less. I got them to test out of curiosity, once the car is back on the road I'll get them adjusted and see how they perform whilst driving.
