ashloys
I'm going to be buying a TT auto very shortly, and I'll be wanting to convert it to manual shortly after. I was just wondering if someone could help me out with a shopping list as I have no idea except the obvious box itself, front half of prop and bellhousing. If someone could give me a full list that would be great. As far as the peddle assembly goes, can you use a JZX100 pedal set or does it need to be from a MK4 supra? Just wondering as it would be handy if you got everything from a car breaking i.e. soarer or JZX90/100 chaser. Any help appreciated, cheers. pedrosixfour
If you get the R154 from a late model Soarer you will save yourself a whole heap of head scratching and parts searching. I'm not sure about this, but if ANY clutch pedal is going to fit a MKIV Supra then it'll be the pedal from a JZZ30 Soarer. But the front section of the prop, the gearstick cradle, cross member and the bell housing will definitely be a direct fit. The clutch master cylinder & hard line will probably fit too. The MKIV Supra is basically a re-dressed JZZ30 with a 2JZ, as far as I know. A box from a JZX90/100 is also a direct fit but you'll need to either source the front prop section from a MKIII Supra, JZZ30 Soarer or, as I did, modify (shorten) the prop section from the JZX donor to fit the MKIV. Can't tell you the odds of the clutch, pedal, cylinder or lines fitting, but it is doubtful. Apart from the gearbox, bell housing, front prop section, cross member, fitting hardware, clutch pedal, clutch master cylinder, clutch hard pipe, clutch flexible pipe, clutch slave cylinder, clutch pressure plate and clutch friction plate you will also need a flywheel suitable for the R154 and *possibly* the section of the manual transmission tunnel that the gearstick comes up from the box through. I'm not sure about that last bit, I know it is needed to do a six speed conversion on an auto but it may not be needed from an R154 swap. I converted a W58 to an R154, so I had a few of the required parts already on the car. Then there is always the R154 from a MKIII Supra, that'll most likely need a 1JZ/2JZ bell housing to be sourced, the gearstick to be modified and a unit to covert the box's mechanical signal for the speedo into an electrical one, as required by the MKIV. The JZZ30 & JZX90/100 R154s are all electronic signal so it is just a case of fitting the MKIV plug to the gearbox signal socket. That is all that springs to mind right now, except for the second rear diff mount that is fitted to TT manuals from the factory, but not TT autos. Not strictly necessary to get the R154 working but the extra loading the manual puts on the rest of the drivetrain would suggest that fitting the second diff mount is a wise move. ashloys
Thank you very much dude If you see of any parts coming up for sale in Ireland/Northern Ireland give me a shout. I'm based in Belfast.
mihai
Is not that easy to do a R154 caonversion, will you save a lot of time and stress if you buy a original manual supra. If you like manual dont buy auto.
ashloys
It may be reasonably difficult but it will also save me a fortune and I genuinely can't afford a TT6 so I've got no other option. I've used an r154 in my old Chaser and it was a fantastic box so have no problems using another!
MATT RR
a full conversion has just gone up for sale on the Facebook page Toyota Supra's and parts for sale Europe!
ashloys
Cheers dude. I'm in no rush to get it atm as I haven't even bought the car yet. Was just so I knew exactly what's needed so I can keep an eye out for bargains. But whenever I do have the car if I full conversion came up at the right price I'd certainly buy it. ashloys
I've also been looking at the ABC clutch kit for the E46 M3 boxes. Do you need to change the ECU to a manual supra one whenever you swap? I've heard the timing is off if you don't?
pedrosixfour
Not to the best of my knowledge. I run the ecu from an automatic soarer in my manual supra and it pulls like a train.

ashloys
Ok so I've just bought an R154 box, prop, shifter and slave cylinder now from a MK3 supra finally!
mclarenross
Great, can you do a build thread, as I'm planning on doing this later.
ashloys
I already do dude progress will be quite slow though as I still need to save for loads of parts. The box itself is a small piece of the puzzle.
ashloys
Right guys, I've got nearly everything needed now. But I'm unsure about what gearbox mount to use. I obviously have the MK4 auto one, and also the MK3 R154 one. So what needs modified or what parts do I need to buy?
ashloys
anyone?
Noz
Use chaser gearbox mount. It'll fit, that's what I used. Make a list of what you are aware you need / what you already have. Make it easier for people to assess what you have without trawling through everyone's comment.

I have pretty much everything else dude, I thought I worded my previous post only asking about the gearbox mount. Apologies! All I need is some bolts, speedo signal converter, and I'm being extra cautious and getting the release hub washer kit brand new, new shifter bushings, new rear crank seal etc. I'll have a look for a chaser gearbox mount, chances of getting 1 are slim/none though! Mike2JZ
If you have no luck with the chaser gearbox mount, try driftmotion as they sell gearbox mounts for r154 on supra there. And if you don't want to pay their prices get a shop to build you a custom one
ashloys
NP89 here sorted me out with a chaser mount, so hopefully it fits. Crossmember may need modded? We'll see.... Does anyone know for DEFINITE if I need a manual trans tunnel? That'll be the ONLY thing to hold things up. Leaving the car up to my mate to do the conversion on Wednesday all being well.
