Rear diff mount differences/advice

Hey guys,

I am in the process of rebuilding my rear end and have come across a question on the mounts for the rear diff before I place the next order..

Can someone confirm if/what are the differences in the rear diff bushes between the Auto and 6 speed (the ones pressed into rear of the rear sub frame)

I found these part numbers for the Auto:

Left bush: 4165114020

Right bush: 4165124020

6 speed:

Left bush: 4165114010

Right bush: 4165114020

I am building a fast Road/Limited track car so Solid would be out of the question due to noise I assume.

My vendor has some for the 6-speed but my car is an auto.

Cheers

It would be good to hear from others who have installed solid bushes. I was considering fitting polys on the ears and solids on the rear but was cautious about making the ride too noisy. Any views? Cheers

My phone seems to have a different username. I am the op, I'll sort out accounts tonight.

If you fit solid at one "end" of the diff casing, you must fit solid at both. Otherwise it's effectively only constrained by half the mounts. I'd just fit the manual bushes *IF THEY ARE STILL AVAILABLE* I think some are now obsolete and no longer available. plus the subframe ones can be a PITA to remove and fit without dropping the frame and making special tooling.

Hey Chris, cheers for the reply and clearing that up for me. Fortunately the sub frame is out and being stitch welded and tidied up so removal won't be bad. I think I found a source in aussieland for the stock rears. I will leave link to source once confirmed.

Would it be noticeably noisier with all solid diff mounts and stock sub frame mounts?

Cheers for your time

Probably not much, but it will transfer more shock loads up the drivetrain. Definitely NOT a good mod if you have an overstretched N/A manual gearbox,

probably OK with a Getrag. For a drag car it may help stop wheel hop. For a road / track car it probably won't make much difference. Time and money

could probably be spent more effectively elsewhere.

Thanks mate, that clears a lot of questions up for me.

On a final note the bushes on the ears of the diff are shot so need changing anyway. would poly ears and stock rears work and while it is all out, any reason to install the second rear different mount that Toyota leave off the autos?

The car is a stroked na-t running 450 at the wheels but will be pushed higher once everything else is well sorted.

Thanks again mate!

Poly bushes will probably be your only option, I'm pretty sure Toyota no longer keep the ear bushes.

One secret to keeping an N/A manual box intact is run a clutch with as little clamp pressure as you can get away with. Brutal high torque clutches will jsut lock and transmit huge loads through the g/box. ones that are a bit marginal will slip a bit and help protect the gear teeth. You arfe already sailing close to the wind!
