JayJay1374
Hi all. Just fitting my pulley kit inc idler and I can't get the standard fanbelt on anymore, does anyone know if it's just me? It doesn't say anything about them needing a specific belt to fit. I see whifbitz sells a fanbelt but it doesn't specially say it will fit with the pulley set. Cheers Jonny

JayJay1374
I was gonna try and call tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone else had the same problem.
Al Massey
What do you mean it doesn't fit?
Al Massey
I fitted his pulleys and the belt fitted fine. I changed every single pulley. Sure you're not pushing the tensioner down far enough? Or the classic, fitting the belt wrong?
JayJay1374
Nope mate. Same belt as what came off the car. They tensioner is maxed out and the belts atleast 10mm too short.
Al Massey
Yeah I used the same belt that came off the car, and it fitted fine. And I meant are you fitting the belt the wrong way Took me 10 mins to work out I was doing it wrong
Scott
Check the manual. You have it looping the wrong way
JayJay1374
Problem sorted. Didn't have the belt the wrong way. The idler was hitting the crank pulley when maxed out (using the stock spacer behind it) Fitted a slightly bigger spacer behind it. And it now clears the crank pulley. Scott
Are you sure that's right? It should all fit the same as stock. Still sounds like it's round the wrong way.
JayJay1374
Here's a picture to prove the belt is the correct way round
Scott
And what was it that wouldn't fit without a spacer? The idler? How on earth was it hitting the crank? Did you have it on the right way around:D That can't be right surely.
JayJay1374
When I say spacer I mean a thick washer. It was the correct way round. It was just hitting on the highest part of the crank pulley, the part that has the timing marks on.

Not a particularly good fit those then are they I didn't think you had the tensioner on the wrong way btw, just a bit of tonue in cheek

herbiemercman
hi Al, just looked at pics of your car, looks great, similar to my NA, have you done anything to increase the BHP.? i am looking at what is available out there, 50BHP and i am happy just to hold my own with the modern day small TD's, i am in conversation with paul at whifbitz trying to find out how much BHP can i get for a DIY kit from him for circa £3k. JayJay1374
So started the car. Squealing like mad from the idler. So put the stock idler spacer on. Better but still making a noise. Took it off to find this: Not happy. Why is it only my car that's having an issue with this?
Scott
Was it possible to fit it the wrong way around? (Not being funny this time lol).
JayJay1374
Well I assumbed the whifbitz logo side would be the front.
Paul Whiffin
Well I assumbed the whifbitz logo side would be the front. Which way round did you have the pulley mounted? If you put it on around the wrong way it rubs against the tensioner.

safcdixon
You should be able to tell if its on the right way By just looking down the line of the belt Jonny, if its on wrong the belt wont line up properly with the tensioner, it will go on but look out of alignment
Scott
Looks like the etching is on the wrong side of your pulley bud. Below is what it should look like. Your pic looks the same, only with the etching on the other side.
