Suprasteve
going on from IanK's thread about Optimax fuel... I've used all types of super unleaded from BP, Total, Esso, Sainsbury, Shell etc and they all feel exactly the same. Can anyone honestly say hand on heart they can feel any difference between them ? The only difference i've noticed is sometimes it idles slower if i use sainsburys. I suppose the more mods you've done to the car the higher Ron/octain you should use for safety reason, right ? Ewen
could be a fluke, but ive just finished a full tank of Tesco 99, and after logging it all in my leather-bound service history spread-sheets (a bit sad but the next owners going to luv it), Ive found my average mpg is up from 19 (using Optimax) to 22.4 over a similar distance and similar trips / driving etc... Bobbeh
Thats good Sure you werent making the effort to conserve? Thing is with better burning fuel you wont have to use as much to get the same response/power.
Ewen
actually, due to my 'TPS' problem, Ive been driving around like a twot for the last month or so....Id assumed that Id see lower mpg this last tank full....for the record, M,T,W,T,F commute to and from work, 10 miles each way, same time / same traffic - S & S, 60 / 70 miles blatt..........I know its not a proper bench test but Ill keep an eye on this one
toyotasuprauk
In my non turbo my MPG was heavily reduced when using Optimax. Tried it in my Celica and the same thing with the reduced mileage.

toyotasuprauk
Likewise no real difference just in the price.
michael parker
Never really knew sainsburys did sul, so i popped along to my local one today and found sul @ 92.9p  cheaper than the usual 95.9p from shell and bp, i know what i'll be using from now on
dangerous brain
Well after Jake blew his engine to bits and my car did exactly the same ridiculously loud backfires on the same day but without blowing my engine up due completely to sainsburies SUL and a heavy right foot. Jakes bang experience is enough to make me steer clear of that fuel even if it was an anomoly.
JohnK
Didnt Jake find a hose off? I dont think it was the fuel.
