RedM
Just seen the price of this at my local place. 92.9/litre. Seems like a bargain compared to the 100.9 for Optimax. It's 97ron Anyone use it regularly? Thoughts on it? I'm thinking that it might be handy until this price spike goes back down. Would it do much harm in the short-term? JohnK
I use it all the time, and I have a single.
toyotasuprauk
There wont be hardly any difference in the octane level, optimax might just have a few more additives perhaps. However optimax is marketed at performance car enthusiasts hence the huge mark up it has. I've used it before and think its fine. 8p a litre is a huge difference in price, imagine if the government announced an 8p reduction in fuel prices tomorrow! I don't think it will do any harm to your car in fact I doubt you'll even notice a difference. This is all in my opinion of course.
RedM
I'm going to give it a go. Anything not to have to drive our old Volvo!

nfsjoe
My company fuel card is for sainsburys so I use it all the time, I don't get any problems with my car, seems fine to me.
garetheves
I use it everytime. gone off optimax altogether now. Too pricey im afraid and they cant even guarantee the RON. Plus i get nectar points and sainsburys. I notice no difference in performace at all, the only difference i do notice is i get, on average, and extra 50 miles to a full tank over Optimax. You do the Math...
Getrag
....cos you drive slower fearing detonation at high boost? Just kidding....i know I drive very slow and granny like if im caught short and have to fill up with the watered-down stuff. Can someone please measure the octane level of different petrols??? There must be some chemists here.
JohnK
Sainsburys super is certified to the same BS standard as all the other 97 ron fuels out there. It will be at least 97, the same as the rest. The only difference will be additives which are a mystery unless someone has a mass spectrometer. dangerous brain
Well I know on my car that it doesn't like sainsburies SUL. It backfires horribly under heavy acceleration which I assume is detonation on a big scale?? Doesn't do it on any other SUL tesco's etc.

dangerous brain
ive used it for ages and no problems , i add some redex every other fill up How much is that though?? Or is availability the issue for you?
peter richards
sorry db what do you mean
dangerous brain
sorry db what do you mean I mean the cost of the redex is about a fiver isn't it? By availability I mean is sainsburies the only SUL you can get in your area thereby giving you not much in the way of alternatives.
peter richards
ok db , fxxxxd up all day yesterday , yes sainaburys is only down the road from me , so is convenient . if you go to halfords for the redex its about £7.99, i get mine in wilkinsons for £3.19 which is a good saving , exactly the same stuff. there is a shell station about five mile , i tried the optimax stuff after everyone raving about it , and didnt find any difference at all. but i drive my supe like a pussy so maybe thats why i didnt see any change . talking about change , there wasnt any of that either lol£
