Left the car for 3 hrs after a 50 km run, came back, central locking won't work, although the alarm will arm and disarm off the fob, and when I turn the key there is absolutely nothing.. No click, no turnover just dead , all the dash lights up normally though.. it's a uk spec with the original alarm system, the key fob has a black and a red button on it, any suggestions?

Could be a load of things. First of all check all the fuses.

When you turn the key to position 2 does the fuel pump prime? If it doesn't, my guess is this is immobiliser related. The immobiliser may be on the same circuit as the central locking so it's worth a shot to look there.

When you turn the key to 3 is there a click? If so it could be the starter solenoid. That wouldn't explain the central locking but it would certainly explain the lack of turnover.

Is the battery charged? If there is a repeated clicking noise, similar to above, then this indicates the battery is drained. This would be surprising after a reasonable run but don't rule out a dodgy battery. How is your alternator?

Have you tried jump starting the car? If you have, you may have got the cables the wrong way around and blown the 120A fuse in the fusebox. Bit of a pain to replace but it's an easy fix. If this is the case just cross your fingers that your ignitor and ECU have survived.

Does the central locking now work other than the drivers side? I take it you can easily lock/unlock the drivers side manually inside?

In order for the key to work you will need to free the lock, it not being used in years thanks to central locking will mean that it's a bit seized. Gentle persuasion and some WD40 might get that working.

If the central locking plain isn't working then that still points to a fuse.
