Bluudy
Hey all, Ive got the engine out and mounted. Questions are as follows Is it worth splitting it all, and re gasketing it? there are no new leaks, just an old one from a rotten Cam cover gaskets which were old and brittle, These have been replaced and just need the block cleaning. I plan to do a NA-T conversion, is there anything i can do while its drained and out the car, for preperations for a NA-T? or just leave it and pull it out at a later date? I will be fitting a W58 (just took off the Auto box), What work is needed in the bay and tunnel? how much persuasion is needed lol with a hammer to get the box to fit? Should i block all the ports before cleaning (Planning jet washing and degreaser) or will this be as it is? Anything i should be doing, as its in the state? Can someone tell me how to remove this auto tentioner so i can replace it? If you can add any insite id appreciate it! Thanks
Hitbox Junkie
Im no exspert but doing all the gaskets cant hurt. And may as well do it in prep for the NA-T [COOL][/COOL]
trebor69
I was under the impression that you have to weld in a new transmission tunnel to take a manual box .....
Bluudy
Hitbox - I dont mind doing it, But if its not needed the £200+ for the gaskets could be used elsewere thats all. Trebor69 - few people have said it can be persuaded! lol
TheTurtleshead
You have to drill out the spot welds holding the transmission cover to the centre tunnel. Then you need to fit a manual transmission cover, preferably by welding. The transmission tunnel section is available new from toyota for about £100. Don't use a hammer, you'll just make a mess, you owe it to the car to do it right!
Swampy442
To replace tensioner pulley, just unscrew the bolt that holds it on. To remove the whole assembly, remove the plastic cover just above it and expose the 3 bolts holding it on.

I do agree that welding in a new one would be the better option. But its not something im set up to do, I.E no welder or experience welding yet. So im going have to go down the persuasion route, i know people have been down this road. how much clearance is needed for the W58? how much bigger can the W58 be? Kev.O
Ok brill, i had a play with the cover, im assuming it just prises off? tight bugger lol! There are a couple of Allen head bolts that need to be removed first. One each side and one in the middle, once these are off I don't remember much resistance. crock
jetwashing the engine sounds bad for any gaskets it comes into contact with?
Chris Wilson
New oil and water pumps, new core plugs, new crank damper. Might as well do stem seals. Have a look at the bearing shells. But clean it first!!
