cered
Having a small problem with my shiny new supra, under gentle acceleration (e.g. pulling out of a junction and going up to 50mph, on boost) there's a howling noise coming from the engine, mid-gear before changing up. Best way to describe it is like wind against a window sill - will get a vid when possible. It sounds like pair passing through/against something so think it's intake related. Where's the best place to start looking? It's had metal intake pipes fitted so dunno if it's just a passive/normal sound or there's a loose jubilee clip somewhere. Car doesn't seem to be affected by it, just a noise. I've had a look around the forum & on Google but there's nothing similar from how it sounds. Any advice/ideas? TheTurtleshead
Does it have a standard or aftermarket blow off valve?
Luxluc
Are you running the stock airfilter?
Fitz
Are you running the stock airfilter? As above, mine does something similar but its because I have an aftermarket airfilter.
cered
It has a K&N panel air filter, no induction/cone kit. Could that be it?
Ric
Boost leak, or your under tray is hanging off?
mellonman
could also be a boost / intercooler pipe loose check the c clips on all connections , if it has just started doing it , but if its always done it it might be normal
cered
Under tray looks fine. Not sure as I only got the car on Saturday, I'll check the clips and hoses tonight. If I can't find anything I'll take it to a garage and have it leak tested. It's probably nothing but better safe than sorry!
np89
Youtube "supra death whine"
Scott
It would be a good idea to see if you can capture the sound on a recording. That way it would help us to recognise the sound a bit better. If it doesn't happen during gentle, off boost, acceleration then it's definitely intake/BOV/Boost leak related. It could be the death whine....... Scott
BTW, the above won't really happen under light acceleration as you won't be creating enough boost pressure to bring in the second tubby.

Thats good to hear, I was getting a whine on light throttle, was for just a second, then it would disappear.. Research on supraforums lead to me the conclusion that the reed valve was the issue, I ordered it, waiting for it to arrive.. Will fit it and hope its the solution..
