Brodierx7
Hi folks, looking to see if anyone can help with my supra idle problem. Basically it starts fine and idles good when it's warming up but when it is upto temperature the revs slowly and gradually drop right down until the point when you Rev and let off it drops right down and engine stops. I've cleaned the idle control valve. Any ideas would be very much appreciated

MATT RR
How old are the plugs? I had an idle problem recently, idle was ok on start up but once warm was dropping and almost cutting out, I put some new NGK grade 7 iridium plugs in that I got from Paul at Whifbitz and its been fine ever since. There are numerous things it could be, start the process of elimination and you will get there, spark plugs is not a bad place to start IMO. GreaseMonkey
I had the same symptoms on my UK Spec after it had been in storage for 4 months, all I did to cure this was maintain the revs at 1,000rpm approx, for 15mins approx at least and then it Idled fine afterwards around 800rpm approx. Suspect it's the ECU Relearning the Idle control. hth;) Edited January 21, 2015 by GreaseMonkey (see edit history)
Chris Wilson
Is it a TT or an N/A?

It's a single turbo, but it has been sitting for around 4 months so maybe just needs a good run?
Chris Wilson
What's the ecu? What does the wide band Lambda show as the idle drops? Can you post a log to your mapper? If you look at live data does the engine run off one load cell into another as the idle falls?

If you look at live data does the engine run off one load cell into another as the idle falls? It's a link G3 ecu. I don't have a clue, It was mapped by GI Motorsport in Glasgow. I took the air filter off to clean it and never put it back on as I was just starting it to let it run. Could that have been anything to do with it? I must take it a right run as it's not had one for a while, maybe that's all it needs.... Hopefully!
Chris Wilson
I had a car in a bit ago on the old G3 and it ran great. As you yourself suggest, a good run may work wonders, but if not check the piping to the MAP sensor and check it's 100%. Good luck. Sadly the G3 doesn't do data logging, AFAIK. Brodierx7
Yes I will try a good run and see what happens. Will maybe be changing the ecu eventually to something that offers a bit more!
CanisLupus
The G3 doesn't learn anything really... a friend has one on his EVO and lets it sit for weeks without power and the car behaves the same every time. I would connect a laptop and see if all sensors work fine. After that check the idle valve etc.
Tricky-Ricky
Could simply be a failed ECU coolant temp sensor....which will let it run fine while the ECU warm up cycle is allowing in more air to cope with a rich mixture, but as soon as the engine is warm there is too much fuel so it gradually dies.
