Upping the price of fuel all day long will NOT reduce polution...nor will it reduce traffic or help the environment...

It does, however....raise a cr4pload of cash...to give away!!

Tax goes up and up.....spending it on the roads goes down....

Speed cameras go up......so do accidents...

Congestion charge...Oh yeah..London traffic is SO much better now.....although actually it's not any better at all! But someones made a cr4pload of cash...

Do they REALLY believe we are all stupid?????????????

Yes they do and yes we are.....

Say what you will about the States but I can guarantee you that if the prices went up like this over there there would be riots...

people in this country have been getting it up the bum with petrol taxes for so long it is considered normal. If the Gov dropped the price 1 or 2p you would be thanking them and happy when you should be saying that is not enough.

why dont they drop the amount of tax they charge on fuel. the more it goes up the more they make. you remember when there was all that on news not long ago about bp or shell making billions in profit, didnt they step in and want to take some money off them saying they making too much money.

i can see it kicking off again.

at the end of day you only have so much money to play with. the amount of stealth taxes is unreal. our wages dont go up like essential everyday items you need to live.

takes me 20 mins to get to work in car but would take over 1 hour to get to work on 2 busses and doing a 12 hour shift is a long day.

i just did a 72 hour week last week came out with a good wage, but it soon goes.i only running around in a crappy escort but never seem to be out of garage buying petrol lol. for normal unleaded i just paid 91.9

i would not mind all car tax money and fuel money we pay if it went into putting into a great transport system.

RIP OFF BRITAIN AGAIN

The question is what do we do about it, There are a couple of thousand members on here and I am sure we all know of other car forums etc. Between the lot of us we should be able to get enough names down for a decent petition.

Hell we could drive down to London and deliver our petition. Not sure if it would do anygood but 100,000 names on a petition would definitely attract some media attention and it may just be the catalyst in starting something bigger.

The one thing we have on our side is that, car enthrusiast or not, everybody agrees, Petrol Prices are way to high and we know it is all TAX

£1 a litre for petrol is a complete and utter disgrace and certainly wont be helping the price of Supra's! Saying that in my NA I use 95 ron which is 89.9p which is a big difference.

Talking about public transport when I moved home recently I'm now in walking distance of a train station as is my work so I thought instead of the traffic and parking hassles I'd get the train to work. £8.20 a day for a return ticket! It costs me about £3.50 a day in the Supra FFS! Not exactly an incentive to use public transport and to make things worse I heard on the news a few months ago that due to overcrowding on the trains there could be a price increase! But then again if we all used public transport the government would lose too much money.

Here is an idea. I know it might sound a little off the wall and all but here goes....

How about you voice your opinion to your local MP in the form of a letter and let them know that you will not stand for this and as such if policies do not change soon you will vote for someone who will.

I know it sounds crazy huh, who would have thought that you can make your opinion known with a vote come election time...... Totally off the wall isn't it ?

Is this a democratic country or are we living under a dictatorship ?

With crude now hitting record highs of over $70 a barrel and reports of petrol in some states of the US selling for over $10 a gallon (and remember their gallon is smaller than ours!) how long will it be before we see the real knock on effects?

As someone ponited out, on this very forum I think, not so long ago, petrol is very cheap, its the tax on tax on tax.

Something has got to give somewhere soon.

Fuel duty, VAT on that total, there's one lot of tax on tax. Then to top it all to buy that £1 of fuel you need to earn about £1.27 due to income tax ect.

The Petrol prices in the U.S. has risen rapidly also. I thinks its about $3 a gallon now or there abouts ( i may be wrong) compared to $1.25 in 1995.

I suppose you could say..In all fairness they have further to go on the roads than we do...going to the local shop for some over there is a 50 mile drive or further..though i guess here most of 'our' fuel is spent..idling in traffic jams.

I would happily join a protest..the last one 'was' a mild success...it forced Blair and company to give way and freeze the price...but we been cheated again 'big time'

So wheres this protest/blockade whatever?

i also took a photo of the pump this morning when i saw the 99.9p on it - couldn't believe it - the young lad in the Shell garage also quoted the American situation was the cause of the sudden price rise which was the second in 2 days - there was also one last month!

everyone was saying how when it gets to £1 that will be it and there'll be uproar - well here it is... now what....

i will be investigating where the nearest Sainsburys is for there 99RON and no longer using Optimax, since there's none of the 99RON Tesco up North yet

if someone can come up with an effective method of getting our voices heard i'm up for it

is it me or are these rises only appearing to be drastic on the high octane fuel for now?

Did it occur to the young lad in the shop to blame the UK Government for the price increase considering up to 80% of the price is UK Taxation...

Sorry but the prices were well on their way to £1 per litre well before the hurricane...

Another convenient piss-poor excuse to get away with robbing the public.

The reason for the sudden rise is because of the disaster in new orleans which has affected fuel supplies in the US. The yanks are buying fuel from Europe to keep up with demand. Unleaded is likely to rise by 7p per litre over the coing weeks. Diesel by 2-3p (as unleaded is the primary fuel in US and demand for diesel isn't so high)

Scary thing is that we recieved emails at work this week to check that our poll signs will display over the 99.9 mark so looks like over a £1.00 a litre is the sign of things to come :thumbdown

Article taken from the Independent online news:

Major economies pledge to ease US fuel shortages

By Philip Thornton, Economics Correspondent and James Daley

Published: 03 September 2005

The world's major economies responded yesterday to a plea by the United States for an injection of oil and petrol to ease its growing energy crisis.

All 26 members of the International Energy Agency (IEA) including the UK agreed to take collective action last night by releasing 2 million barrels of oil products a day over the next 30 days.

The move was a response to a formal request by the US that was an implicit acknowledgement that the impact on its refining capacity wrought by Hurricane Katrina was threatening to grow out of control.

The action came as petrol pump prices in the US threatened to be forced above $4 (£2.20) a gallon before the key holiday weekend. In the UK, the price of a litre of fuel hit a record, breaking through 92p a litre for the first time.

"IEA member countries are acting in solidarity with the United States in addressing this loss and restoring confidence to the oil market," the IEA said. "Member countries are aware that products and, in particular, gasoline, will be the most useful contribution."

The IEA's members hold 4.1 billion barrels of public and private oil stocks.

News of the move prompted a sharp drop in oil prices yesterday. In New York, crude prices fell $1.77 a barrel, or 2.6 per cent, to $67.70. They peaked at $70.85 on Tuesday. US petrol prices also eased. In the UK, pump prices broke through 92p for the first time on Thursday to hit 92.29p after a rise of almost a penny a litre on Wednesday night. Diesel prices reached 95.8p, according to the AA Motoring Trust.

"You can't help but think that a pound a litre is coming but when is anyone's guess," a spokesman said. "The hurricane could not have come at a worse time."

Notice the sharp drop in oil prices .... think that will filter down to us ? Hell no.

The UK Gov is the bad guy here, if anyone should lower anything it should be the Gov and the level of fuel tax....

Just heard on the news (BBC 24) it's not just us paying through the nose. Seems in America petrol stations are closing because they can't display more than $3 on their pumps. And all because of a hurracaine called Katrina. Now i realise why help wasn't sent sooner and why it's taking too long. Bush is on another fund raiser.

Bush is on a fundraiser, plus they want to make a point with HomeLand Security: that they need to pour a lot more billions into it ;)

The creation of this agency was a major reason behind 9/11, they cannot trust the CIA anymore, not to the extent they used to back in the cold war.

...plus just look at the 'displaced' people: why exactly would 'decent' americans want to pay to have them relocated, fed, housed etc? That is a capitalist society, those who can't afford to feed themselves are seen as parasites, a burden on the others.

The truth hurts sometimes, it's ugly...
