JackyBoi
The cylinder head flange is separated with a gap to allow for expansion, the flange on the one you pictured is one piece. Ah I think I see, the slot on the header flange right in the middle of the 6 runners?
Hemanhead
As you are changing your Turbo setup due to selecting the wrong things the first time around, why would you want to experiment a second time round? Order whifbitz or SRD manifold and be done with it. It's really not the most expensive part the conversion mate.

Because it's a lot more fun to experiment with different kits, different brands and different setups than it is to just buy very expensive stuff that fits straight away
j_jza80
If you are going to use one of those manifolds, make sure you brace the turbo, and get a decent flexi section welded into the exhaust just after the downpipe. That will do more for the manifold than welding it.

At the end of the day, if it doesn't work, I can chuck it and spend money on a proper manifold!
j_jza80
Im looking into this myself, as even with a hks manifold i think leaving the turbo unsupported will cause issues. Im thinking of making a bracket that attaches to the 2 rearmost but 1 sparkplug cover threads on both cam covers, and using an arm to attach it to the turbo. I didn't bother bracing these twins but I should have - any kit I put on in the future will definitely be braced!
JackyBoi
Managed to squeeze a couple hours in today after work. Got the front turbo off which was a complete pain due to one bolt being in an inaccessible place, many many swears and tears later it was out. This bolt is gonna be fun - left it for next time. Picture doesn't really show how impossibly awkward it is to get to, especially as there's a nut as well Anyone know of some tools that are great for getting in those kind of places? JackyBoi
http://www.gurneyflap.com/Resources/DSC06001.jpg Looks pretty good. Is it the bracing you're looking at? I'm thinking about polished rods that connect the header flange to the turbo flange, and something else to brace the actual turbo to the engine bay, with some measures to allow expansion
j_jza80
As Nick said, when you look at motosport type braces, they seem to be rose jointed. Rose joints aren't expensive either. Welding rods between the flanges *may* actually cause cracking.

j_jza80
Yeah i think ideally youd need a couple. Im going to be doing this as soon as i get my supra back.
JackyBoi
Got a load more work done today! Manifolds out and ready to all be cleaned up just a wastegate, downpipe and some AN fittings to be taken off before cleaning up the kit and listing it for sale: Also had the pleasure of changing the exhaust system on a R32 today
JackyBoi
So this arrived today £138 special delivery from Shanghai as mentioned, plan with this is to machine flatten all flanges, relocate wastegate pipes, blast any slag out from inside the tubes, and brace the hell out of the turbo. We've decided to use a bracing method that will suspend the turbo from above, essentially removing 80% of the weight from pushing on the manifold, increasing the potential for cracks. Will test fit by the end of this week hopefully. It always gets exciting when parts start turning up Was also slaving over my manifolds the past two days to get them looking as close to new as possible. Not too bad considering how old they are + how young I am! Ordering the S366 soon as well, including some new tasty parts for the ol' gal
Chris Bailey
How comes you opting for a S366 now? Thought you was sold on the 6466?
JackyBoi
How comes you opting for a S366 now? Thought you was sold on the 6466? Purely to save a bit of money for other jobs; 6266/6466 dbb is £1500 brand new, can get an S366 for £650 brand new and they're still a great turbo so why not

np89
BW S366 or the Boostlabs variant are hardly cheap chinese parts are they? - They are manufactured in the US for a start and there are no horror stories with them that I am aware of. What makes you say that Ric? - genuinely interested

JackyBoi
Going from a quality piece of kit to cheap Chinese parts.. why? *part, as it's only one Chinese part, and why not? No one on here (that I know of at least) has a cheap and cheerful Chinese manifold and I want to see if it will actually work or not for a prolonged period of time - if it does then happy days; I've just saved about a grand. If not, then it can be binned and a proper manifold will be purchased
