The Raven
OK so i removed and refitted the dash loom. Now i took it out and on bringing it back, all the dash warning lights and odo stay on on both sides of the dash with the key removed?!?!?!?!?!?!. Also the Ariel is staying up?!?!?!?. You turn the car on and it all goes away?
Mike2JZ
Honestly not sure, but I'd check the fuses in the footwell just to make sure it looks in order. as it takes 30 seconds
The Raven
Its getting a feed from somewhere? The strange thing is while it sat running it was ok. It was even ok when i drove it to the garage, it turned off fine, then a mile or so down the road i pull in and turn it off and all the lights stay on, Yet you start the car they all go off? I wonder if i have have pinched a wire maybe? Also the speedo isnt working, no engine fault codes Edited January 12, 2015 by The Raven (see edit history)
The Raven
OK pulled its fuse and they all shut off, so its clearly not getting power from anywhere else. All the heaters and radio and clock turn off with the key so its just the warning lights and odo that stay on
mattdavies
Sure you haven't some how confused and ignition live with a permenant live, don't ask me how but that is what it sounds like.
The Raven
Well thats what i was thinking, but then if that was the case the things would stay on even when driving? The only thing left is to remove the elglow dial wiring and see what happens
supra_ufo
make sure all the earth cables were connected back up
The Raven
Is there a relay box after the key that sorts out what position the the key is in and then sends power based on that? It seems to me that the car is acting like the key is in, hence why it turns off all the lights when its started?
Kaan W
Was it a new loom or you replaced it with another used one?
The Raven
I replaced it with a used one
Kaan W
I replaced it with a used one The only thing I can think of is a relay that was once there for the fog light mod was powered from dash lighting feed then the spare contacts on the relay have also been connected up to an ignition feed somewhere causing the relay to fail when switched on? The Raven
The only strange thing is that it sat fine for a good hour, while i was testing things, it then ran to the garage and shut off fine. Only once i came back did it start messing up I think this will probably end up with me having to remove it all and start again.

The Raven
Had another looky today, i cant see anything a miss. Think is going to end with taking it all out again now. I will refit the old loom and see what happens that will rule out the loom being wrong i guess

The Raven
Im starting to wonder if there is a relay? or the key itself is at fault. I dont know how they work but i would guess there is a contact inside the barrel that tells the car where the key is? If the lights on where getting a feed all the time they wouldnt go off when the key is turned and the engine is running. However if the car thinks the key is position 1 all the time then that would make the lights stay on? So can someone turn the key one click and tell me what lights up and what works please
The Raven
OK its not the barrel sending the signal. I pulled the main plug and lights stay on
The Raven
Everything seems to work ok. Things not working MPH dial (all others ok) Mirrors Ariel stuck in up. LIghts on all the time until car is started ODO All warning lights on both top panels.
The Raven
Well monday is coming so back to it tomorrow. If this fails looks like a ££££££££££££ trip to the auto electricians is coming
supra matt
It can't be that much mate if all you have done is swapped the loom are you 100% you have pluged in All of the connections, if so just go though it one more time,
CanisLupus
May be a long shot but worth a look. Did you maybe switch the plugs for the clock and upper dash panel? Had a similar behavior on a customers car when he swapped them accidentally(and they fit fine even if switched).
The Raven
Right where is the relay for the dash lighting? I need to pull is and check its not stuck on, that would also explain it. Also would an ECU fault make this happen? Im not sure what i could have done to it but maybe i broke it taking things out? Im starting to think i will rip it all out, buy a new dash loom and ecu and pay someone to put it back in. I really wish i had left it all alone now.
