suspension problems

hi folks,

looking for a wee bit of advice as this is now causing me a real headache. a couple of months ago I had a wee incident involving a kerb and my rear alloy which resulted in bending some suspension arms, ive replaced the toe and caster arm and I've also replaced the bottom arm that controls the camber, the problem I have is the wheel is still slightly sitting in at the bottom.

I cant notice anything else that could be bent or damaged, there is a slight kink in the rear subframe but I'm not sure if its always been there as it looks like its been done to give clearance for the exhaust.

any help or advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks Dave

That arm looks like it could have a small bow in it but Im not sure if they are poker straight and how much surface rust there is so it may be ok, does it drive ok? Biggest giveaway would be ifg it drives like a crab or there is uneven tyre wear?

sorry meant to say, car drives spot on, doesn't crab or pull to one side when I take my hands off the wheel. ill try and get a couple of pictures in the morning of how the wheel is sitting.

It wont pull if its the rear wheels, but if it was significantly out on one side you'd prob get quite a bit of vibration and stuff from the rear

It certainly could pull to one side with damaged rear suspension or misalignment. Even a low pressure in a rear tyre can cause pulling. I would suspect the rear upright itself, or the subframe. Needs professionally checking. That is one rusty, crusty old Supra :(

no not had the alignment checked yet, although the camber arm is adjusted fully out and the wheel still kicks in on the bottom.

how do you mean the rear upright Chris? yeah there is a fair bit of crustiness underneath, shell is a 94 though and has got 270,000km on the clocks. nothing a few days with a drill and wire brush attachments cant tidy up.

aw ok got you now. I take it the only place to get a replacement hub carrier from will be second hand or sell a kidney and get one straight from Toyota?

They might just be one of those parts that aren't THAT bad a price new, and really, if you can affords, it's the sort of part you are much better off buying new, so you know it's in perfect shape. The rear hub bearing should be renewed as a matter of course. The hub flange should be examined carefully for wear or marks where it is within the inner bore of the hub bearings. They can and wear here, and a new bearing will just fail again in no time with a worn flange.
