Turbo trouble

Recommended Posts

Well guys looks like ive blown a turbo.

I thought it may have been a sensor, but theres smoke on start up and second turbo aint pulling.

I will be on the hunt for a set of standard twins and a mechanic to fit in the Nort East, if anyone can reccommend a place.

Jm imports is the closest specialist. I Fitted a new 1st turbo recently and what a pain in the arse. Took hours. Not the hardest job in the world. Just awkward.

Because I'm a bit simple...

Can you actually just fit the second turbo or will I need to replace both?

You could change just one, but it would be better to change the set, with one of them failing you don't know what stress that has caused the other, plus it would be less work to replace the whole thing rather than bits.

There are quite a few single builds going on so I wouldn't have thought it would be too hard to get a decent second hand set for a reasonable price.

Also be careful buying second hand turbos. Quite often they get taken off the car and just thrown in the corner of a workshop with no covers. They pick up no end of dust and spiders and then get kicked out the way.

Always ask how they were stored when they came off a car and make sure you run some good oil through them on startup.
