Crash Bandicoot
Hi all, Can anyone tell me if a 2jz out of a Lexus will drop in place of a supra 2jz engine without anything else needed?
Crash Bandicoot
Just to clarify, The car the engine will be going into is a N reg mk4 supra manual, The engine is being taken from a 96 lexus gs300 auto. The supra has everything in place (manual ecu etc) The engine from the Lexus is a complete engine with all ancillaries. What would be needed if anything to make it compatible? Cheers is advance guys
1_Tidy_1
Just check all the diagrams for the looms. that kinda thing be my guess,
Scott-tt
IIRC the GS300 2JZ-GE is front sumped where as soarers and supras are rear sumped to pass the steering
Crash Bandicoot
Ah, I'm guessing you can swap sumps over then? as I'd have both engines to swap parts over
Scott-tt
Yeah as far as I know they are interchangeable but best to get this confirmed. That's the only obstacle I can think you'd have in the swap
dangerous brain
Aristo TT engine drops in with a sump and some other tweaks I can't remember so it is not so difficult. Surely though a discarded N/A engine from a TT transplant are abundant enough to be proper cheap?
straightsix
Sump and wiring will be different but it's do-able. As above though, why not swap like for like as you won't be gaining anything other than a Lexus badged engine....!
Benjy
I've got a GTE Supra sump if you need one.
Crash Bandicoot
The engine is the same tho if the badge is taken off... And I would have a full car with a knackered engine and complete engine from the Lexus so could use the loom from the old engine surely? Correct me if I'm wrong. And I'm struggling to find a toyota engine let alone one with 70k genuine with fsh miles seen running and comes complete for £250... Thanks for the offer benjy but I will be able to use the sump and oil pick up from the naff toyota engine
Chris Wilson
The crank on the Lexus engine will need an pilot bearing pressing in for the input shaft of the manual box. Forget to do this and you will knacker the gearbox almost straight away.
Crash Bandicoot
Thanks for the info so that would be it then?
Fizzy T
I didn't know about having to fit a pilot bearing, is that just the lexus engines that need that or is it auto to manual conversions that require it?
Chris Wilson
Auto to manual. The nose of the auto torque converter just sits in the recess of the bare crank. A manual gearbox input shaft has to turn at a disparate rate to the crankshaft, and hence needs a ball bearing in the crank recess. These conversations need some thought and homework! Hope that helps a bit.
TRD-1
I take it ur Supra is a JDM NA? If so ur choice of wiring and ecu will depend on this working, the JDM mk4 Supra NA ecu manual or auto won't run a GS300 engine with its wiring loom. The NA from a GS300 is MAF based, where as the NA from a supra is MAP based, also im pretty sure the interior wiring loom will be different between the GS300 and Supra. Minus the other few minor differences between these engines, best thing to do would be get hold of a JDM Supra NA engine wiring loom or use the wiring loom from ur existing engine, connect that to the engine and then it should be plug and play, along with the other changes needed as said above.
