Ian.
Otherwise known as the Zupra I know there were some on here that were interested in the project (in amongst the majority who were wanting to kill me ) so here it is Start off with a 2003 350Z. 90K miles on the clock & a few minor issues that need sorting. I know the car though & this is the second time I have owned it. It came with a few modifications already done. 18" Enkei RPF1 wheels, APS decats, Invidia gemini exhaust - all of which will be sold. Along with the Brembos & the engine. then you get rid of the under powered VQ35 Engine is now in the final stages of being built and should be back in the first few weeks of the new year. Engine mounting kit is currently on its way from the states along with a custom wiring harness. Gearbox conversion kit so that we can use the 350Z gearbox is also on its way. Should have the engine in & running by the end of January. Ordered my Cusco coilovers and anti roll bars last night along with some Defi gauges. Just need to sort the fuel system, custom catch can, radiator, race tech dash, wheels, tyres, brakes & a few other secret plans and the cars ready. The body work isn't in great condition and theres a few body parts I want to change on there so im tempted to leave it unpainted and do a kind of modern day rat rod kind of car - is just a question of if my OCD will allow me to do that
listy
How much power/torque can the Z gear box take? I'm just wondering how easy it would be to get one into a Supra. Obviously there is a Z box to 2JZ adaptor (as you have one on the way?), so I guess it would be custom mounts and prop? Always wanted a 350z, just not practical these days. Look forward to seeing the outcome. You'll have to bring it to Whifbitz so I can pop in and have a nose
Ian.
I know of a few Z that run over 900hp & similar torque figures with the standard box I'm sure I could arrange that
Gaz6002
Nice project. Will you make it handle well too? The 350Z has a lovely chassis. PLEASE don't rat-rod it. Would ruin the feel of the car, IMHO.
JamieP
Are you taking the engine from the blue supra to do this?
Ian.
Are you taking the engine from the blue supra to do this? The one that was broken? Yeah. It's being rebuilt & will be running a BW S366 turbo
JamieP
I didn't realise you broke the supra. Looks like a nice project. Good luck.
Ian.
Yeah the engine was knackered. I did intend on rebuilding the supra but tbh I just never got on with the car & when I had the chance to get another z I couldn't resist - this is my 4th 350z! j_jza80
Great project Will be interested to hear how it handles afterwards, a fully laden 2JZ-GTE is somewhere in the region of twice the weight of the Nissans stock VQ engine, and is both much taller and longer. I hear that LSX conversions are quite common in the US, and suit the car perfectly.
bignum
I`d rather have kept the supra, but then again i am a true hardcore fan of the 90`s jap muscle car beast.

As much as I love the sound of a V8, I prefer the kick of a turbo It also helps that I had a 2JZ being rebuilt at the time I think it should handle ok, the Z will have a good suspension setup once its done & 350s handle big power very well
j_jza80
Sounds great. who's doing the suspension? I assume they must be custom shocks and springs to suit the additional weight Characteristics? Possibly even a custom Geo setup? May be also worth looking at a significantly thicker front ARB. Will the brake bias also need looking at, given the pretty significant change in weight distribution? Fascinating project Edited January 1, 2015 by j_jza80 (see edit history)

Fascinating project You shouldn`t have said anything about all this weight transfer suspension blah blah blah just wait for the 1st time he takes it out and stands on the brakes for it to go into an endow then arse over tit, joking really Ian:) This golf is pretty cool at it though,
Ian.
Its not a track car so im not going crazy with the suspension. will be a set of quality coilovers, front and rear arbs, all new bushes & arms and some bracing. as for brakes the brembos are going for a bbk, probably stoptechs. i wouldnt say there is a "significant" change in weight, we are talking around 150-200lbs at most & all of the 2jz 350s ive seen handle just fine on stock suspension or coilovers I'm fully expecting to stack it the first time I drive it
j_jza80
It will be more than that, going off the approximate wet weights I've got for both engines, it will be more like 150kg by the time the turbo and intercooler are fitted. As I said before, it is also the size and the shape. It needs setting up by a specialist imo, as I would guess it will suffer from chronic understeer, and pretty dramatic weight transfer under heavy braking. Ian.
I was gonna get kwik fit to set it up for me............ Like I said - it's a road car & I don't drive like a tosser so "heavy" braking will be minimal. Thanks for your opinion but I think I'll leave it up to the experts who are building the car & build based off the experiences of people who have actually done the swap
j_jza80
I didn't realize that and "professional experts" had already carried out this swap before in the UK.
Ian.
Id call abbey motorsport pretty professional/expert
j_jza80
I'd be surprised that a well respected firm like Abbey Motorsport would recommend using a set of normal 350z coilovers on a custom project like this. Having seen their impressive work with Skylines, they don't appear to be the sort of company that cuts corners.
ballsdeep
Can't wait to see this one! Good luck with the build dude should be fun! Subscribed!
