Jellybean
Hey Heard it was common practice to replace the 2jz TENSIONER ASSY with the more heavy duty 1jz unit and negate the need for the ABSORBER SUB-ASSY, BELT TENSIONER 16602-46010 I take it the Timing Belt Tensioner Bracket and Upper Shock Arm would be redundant too? Any pro's or cons? Edited December 9, 2014 by Jellybean More info (see edit history)
Swampy442
The tensioner assembly is the same between both engines, the damper is fitted to manual cars I believe, to stop the belt bouncing on gear changes.
Jellybean
Ah ok , was told the spring in the 1jz tensioner was stronger , reason why a 1jz has no shock absorber I have have no experience of a 1jz so just took them at their word
Swampy442
You have to ask why the spring would be stronger, no reason I can see.

Swampy442
Nah, not true. Auto 2JZs don't have dampers.
