GSR2007
Hi folks I bought my supra with the first decat already done and was wondering will the emissions be low enough with just the second cat in place or will I need to purchase a second hand first again? May be better suited for irish members I'm unsure if emissions are the same for the UK mot as opposed to irish nct
Chris Wilson
If it's given a good time to get heat in the second cat and is otherwise in rude health it should pass fine. The first small cat is to heat up fast and give low emissions X seconds after a cold start. The English test does not check that, no idea about Ireland though. pedrosixfour
My advice when it comes to the farce that is the NCT is to put it through as it is and take it from there. I gave up trying to get anything to pass an NCT. The failures would've been funny if not for the fact they were happening to me! One tester was very fortunate to remain on his side of the counter & even he wasn't shy about acknowledging that. My Prelude once failed because it didn't have the county name displayed in Irish at the top of the license plate. I rectified that monumental safety concern and the car sailed through the test. A fortnight later I replaced all the brake disks because one practically disintegrated when I went to change out the pads that I knew were at their limit. I put my Mam's Yaris through the test last week with a sharp knock coming from the left rear corner (dead damper) and it passed. I'm waiting for a pair of rear dampers to come in at the motor factors so the car is safe for my Mam to drive.
GSR2007
Seems to depend on the tester and car really I suppose..I had a fair few dealings with them myself my daily a Nissan march not a shock kind in the car sailed through and my previous car dc5 failed on handbrake 3 times after replacing callipers cables and everything same tester the 3 times 4th time different tester flew through with compliments
