fastby4
In many cases of this problem is that the oil seal spring jumped down. Thomas
Tricky-Ricky
The spring only gets displaced as a result of the oil pressure behind the seal.
Chris Wilson
People say and think this, but in all the cases I have seen the spring has "jumped off" during removal of the old seal, and would have been in place until it was levered out. IMO.

IMO. Mine was off when the seal failed the second time as I just removed the pump complete with seal, and the spring was floating about when I dismantled the pump, I think the pressure forces the seal lips outward and dislodges the spring. fastby4
I use a another seal ring. The same manufacturer as OEM Toyota but slightly larger in diameter. On the back I fix the spring with silicone. That works very well.
Tricky-Ricky
Better to fix the cause not the symptom.
jjs_82
What if that silicone comes away from the seal? Could be bad.
Tricky-Ricky
What if that silicone comes away from the seal? Could be bad. Although unlikely, it could block the drain and compound the original problem, but if the oil pump is worn and leaking it will not prevent the seal from being displaced. Tricky-Ricky
Well so far so good left a sheet under it see if anything happens over nite Be wary when driving it,especially at high RPM, keep an eye on the low oil light, as this was the only think that alerted me to the problem, I had lost 60% of my oil before I realised, but I was lucky.
